The Build Event

AUSTIN, Texas (October 31, 2008) - On Wednesday, October 22, the Stephen F Austin Hotel played host to the first-ever Austin Habitat for Humanity The Build event - a lunch hour that changed lives.

At the event a special presentation was made to philanthropist and entrepreneur Nav Sooch, for his leadership in stewarding over $125,000 in donations to Austin Habitat in 2008. Special guest emcee John Thornton lead the over 250 guests in applauding Mr. Sooch's efforts with the presentation of the 2008 Austin Habitat 'Change Lives' award.

Austin Habitat is proud to announce that with the generosity of the event's guests and sponsors, over $100,000 was raised in the room to support the Austin Habitat mission. This achievement was accompanied by the announcement of an additional $300,000 in funding for a special Chestnut Neighborhood revitalization project, made possible through the Meredith Family Fund of the Austin Community Foundation, as well as a grant from the Entrepreneur's Foundation of Central Texas.

With over $400,000 committed in one day, October 22, 2008 was one of the finest days ever for the fight against poverty housing in Austin. Austin Habitat thanks the support of its Board of Directors, Leadership Council, Event Sponsors, advocates and donors.
