Wi

th only 6 weeks to go, many of you have not signed up for Ironman 70.3 Calgary. I get many inquiries about "how many spots are left?" and even more asking "when will the race will fill up?"
I am left wondering "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?"
I have narrowed down the excuses to 3 main reasons - which are:
1. I just don't want to commit (yet)I can tell you from experience that if you wait until the last minute the odds of you actually doing the race are slim. I often think that I'll just wait and see how my training is going and maybe sign up closer to the race. I can tell you that you MUST make the commitment to yourself. By signing up you are making a commitment to yourself to train, get fit and do the race. If you don't sign up there will always be something (anything) that will give you the excuse you need not to do the race and never learn what you have in you. All you need to do is commit, so what are you waiting for?
2. I'm not in shape and I don't have enough time With six weeks to go you have enough time to prepare and race on July 29th. To prove it, I have provided a 6 week training program below. You will need to commit yourself to doing the race and dedicate the time to getting fit. It won't even take that many hours to train - only 8 hours a week is really all you need if you are focused and disciplined. In six weeks you may safely lose 20 pounds and be fitter than you ever have been. You do have the time - what are you waiting for?
3. I don't have anyone to train with This one is easy. Find a friend who also needs to make a commitment and talk them into signing up too. Make a pact with your friend to do the training and live up to your commitment to them and yourself. There are also many folks just like you who are looking for training buddies, just post a note on our Facebook page and find someone to train with. You can meet some great people through triathlon training - I know, that is how I met my wife!
You can do it - what are you waiting for?
Well I hope I have convinced you that you should register for Ironman 70.3 Calgary and test yourself on Race Day. Why not be one of the smiling faces crossing the finish line instead of sitting on the couch and wishing you had done it.
