June 2012 Issue

Ironman 70.3 Calgary MedalsWith the arrival of June, we have  Eight Weeks until the gun goes off  for  Ironman 70.3 Calgary!  And there is much to do - both for us the race organizers and you the athletes.

The month of June should focus on Ironman specific training and race specific preparation.  A big component of preparing for an Ironman is to "dial in" your nutrition by figuring out what fuel and hydration is best for your body during long training days.  Dialing in your nutrition is essential to getting your personal best on race day.

The water in Ghost Lake is starting to warm up, 25 brave swimmers swam there on Saturday.  Once we get a few warm days we should see water temperatures begin to climb.

We have lots happening, expect to see some announcements regarding on-course nutrition in the coming weeks.  There is lots o great information on the Athlete's Corner page of our website and our FaceBook Forum is getting lots of traffic.

We hope your training is going well and we hope you enjoy this issue!

The final days before your race isn't the time for last minute training. The final days are
just as important as the training. Here are some tips to help get you to the start line relaxed
and ready to race.
Ironman 101 - Training Races  - Dr. Trev Williams
Triathlon 101  Practice Races - The way to approach a 'B' race is to race like mad, no excuses, but focus on doing the assigned tasks (like bike pacing, or fast transitions) extra well. When the gun goes off, it is optimal to have found your proper balance of enthusiasm and stress to tweak the most out of your body on the day. The moment you are on a start line and you state, out loud or to yourself, this is a training day, you are most likely killing your 'A' race.
