In this special JAMsj Curator's Tour, you will learn about life in San Jose's
Nihonmachi (Japantown) and in the surrounding Japanese farming clusters.
This entertaining and educational overview will explore the region's transition from a "bachelor society," when boarding houses, pool halls and bathhouses catered to the predominantly male migrant farm workers,  to the formation of permanent and vibrant communities.

The JAMsj Curator's Tour includes a special presentation by JAMsj Curator Jimi Yamaichi, lunch and a tour through San Jose's historic Japantown. The price of the JAMsj Curator's Tour is $50.

Attendance is limited, and registration is required. To register, please contact Mimi Suga at mimisuga@gmail.com or at 408-265-8693.

"Color of the Sea takes the reader back to a painful moment in history when Japanese Americans were caught between two identities and the future of a nation hung in the balance.  Through beautifully written prose, artful imagery and achingly real characters, John Hamamura sweeps his reader away to a time in history that shook the world and a love story that will resonate long after the final page."
-- Asian American Press

The book club meets the first Friday of every other month and is always open to new members. Selections are chosen collaboratively at the end of each meeting and align with the JAMsj mission -- the celebration of Japanese American art, history, and culture. Books are readily available at San Jose public libraries. If you have questions, please contact Aggie Idemoto at (408) 268-4440 or aggie@jamsj.org.
