If you're resting on the laurels of your engineering degree, you may get left behind when it comes to new job opportunities and earning potential. According to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics, the number of people enrolling in continuing education classes is expected to rise 17% between now and 2016.
 
That equates to 20.4 million people who will be more up-to-date on new trends and developing technologies than those who aren't taking continuing education courses.
