ALERT: Young whipper-snappers being trained early to take your job!
That's the end goal of Project Lead The Way ®, a not-for-profit educational program that hopes to give rise to future engineers. The program strives to help children develop the tools for building a strong foundation in math and science; a necessity for aspiring engineers. During the last two weeks of July, ODU, Virginia's official university affiliate for the program, welcomed over 20 high school teachers eager to learn the project's curriculum and relay that information to the youth of America. With currently over 250,000 kids enrolled nationwide...make sure you are continuing your education with our "Lunch and Learn" series! visit our ODU page for more...

COOL FACTOR: Paper or Plastic?
Brown-bagging it for your "Lunch and Learn" session? Next time you ponder about the choice of paper versus plastic, think about Eco Plast, a newly engineered synthetic polymer that is designed to dissolve in water. With widespread use of this innovative "plastic", we can reduce the harmful effects of plastic bags in our waste and water systems. The future of disposing of plastic bags will soon consist of filling your sink with water, soaking the Eco Plast bags, and washing the environmentally friendly water down the drain! Engineering Our Food
I'm sure you have heard of the thermodynamic equilibrium or possibly even parallel-vector numerical algorithms, but how about 'molecular cooking'?
REAL Egg or NOT?
Based on the science of molecular gastronomy, molecular cooking is becoming a growing trend in food preparation. Does fake caviar made from sodium alginate and calcium or instant ice cream, fast-frozen using liquid nitrogen, sound appetizing? If so, click on the link below to learn more. Bon appetite! www.nature.com |
Question: What type of fat may help pump up your brain's gray matter, thus enabling you to retain more while you "Lunch and Learn"?
Email us your answer at pdc@odu.edu and you could win an ODU Bookstore Gift Certificate. Respond by Wednesday, August 19, 2009. The winner will be selected at random from all the correct responses.
Last month: We asked readers if they could answer the help-wanted ad for an engineer who liked to solve difficult problems. The phone number was the first problem to solve and it was an equation: if X=24 and Y=30 the phone:=01.(Y2-X).(Y2-102)x10. Jeff Stimpson properly solved it: 876-7980
