Are you building the foundation of your career in engineering or architecture ?

For those looking to boost your career-you won't want to miss these upcoming classes:

1- Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to help you increase productivity in building design and construction. We can accommodate your busy schedule-and the courses will provide the benefits of BIM and how it can automatically coordinate changes throughout your projects. Both classes offer 26 CEUs. Read more.

2- Professional Engineering Exam Prep Courses These face-to-face courses provide complete preparation with experienced instructors. All sessions focus on working example problems from previous exams and use the popular Lindeburg Review Manuals.  Review courses include FE, ME PE, CE PE and EE PE.

Cool Factor-A Space Robot that Jumps?
A spherical robot that rolls and is capable of jumping over obstacles has been developed by the University of Bath's Center for Biomimetric & Natural Technologies in England. Because it can maneuver in any direction without the use of wheels, the robot-called "Jollbot"-could be a promising technology for future space exploration.

Jollbot is the first robot with the ability to leap over objects and roll over smooth terrain. By slowly compressing itself, Jollbot mimics the "pause and leap" method of a grasshopper, by storing energy as it constricts and releasing it all at once in a controlled burst.

Scientists are currently researching how to improve Jollbot's engineering so it can power itself in space and so it will be able to sense its environment.

Do You Know the Answer?

There are two theories on how the term Building Information Modeling came about, but one person is generally agreed upon as the man who popularized the name. Who is he?

Email us your answer at vatpdc@odu.edu and you could win a ODU Football Coffee Cup . Respond by January 19. (Winners will be selected from a pool of correct respondents.)

There were no winners for last month's question, "What are three universal symbols used in GD&T?" The answer is Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
