Join the Texas Music Festival Orchestra this Fri., June 22 at 8 p.m. as they perform a free concert titled German Masters. More than 100 gifted musicians from around the world perform under the direction of Lavard Skou-Larsen. The concert is in conjunction with the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival and showcases German composers Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms. Tickets are not required. Gates open at 7 p.m. The event  is sponsored in part by Houston Community Newspapers and The Courier.

Celebrate the German culture as the Texas Music Festival Orchestra performs Strauss' "Death and Transfiguration," Op. 24, and Brahms' Symphony No. 3 under the direction of Lavard Skou-Larsen. Finalists of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition will be announced at the concert.  Winning soloist, Xiao Wang, will perform Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 by Sibelius as part of the program.

The auction closes on June 22 at 5 p.m. and the highest bidder at that time will be awarded the package.  

All proceeds from the auction benefit The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion's performing arts events and educational outreach programs. The Pavilion is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization.

One Direction
recently became the first British group to top the Billboard 200 with a debut album. Their first North American headline tour kicked off May 24 in Fairfax, Vir., and every concert has already sold out. 

"We're so proud of what we've achieved over the past two years, and that's why we wanted to put on a show that reflects that," said Harry Styles, One Direction band member. "We've worked so hard to make it brilliant and we don't just want the fans to enjoy it - we want parents and everyone else who comes along to love it too."

The official tour merchandise is offered for sale one day early to help prevent fans from having to wait in long lines during the concert June 24. T-shirts, sweatshirts, posters, concert tour programs, photos and other items are available for early purchase at Town Green Park located at 2099 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, 77380. Fans interested in shopping early should arrive starting at 11 a.m. Parking will be available in local lots. 

A merchandise stand also is opening early inside the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion at noon June 24.
