Artist Spotlight: The Beach Boys
by Lauren Tennet
Today at 8 p.m., drive your "Little Deuce Coupe" to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to see The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour. See this iconic American band in action, performing hit songs influenced by fast cars, surfing, the beach and romance.
The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in 1960s California. The Wilson brothers formed the group, with Brian Wilson being the key writer for many of the band's early singles. The Beach Boys reached popularity with over two dozen Top 40 hits including "Surfin' Safari," "Surfin' USA," "Surfer Girl," "In My Room" and many more. The band's lyrics and sound reflect the youth culture in Southern California of the 60s and the band is well known for their close harmonies and multi-layered sound. During a time when Beatle-mania reigned, The Beach Boys maintained a strong hold on the charts, as well as received positive feedback from commercial listeners and critics alike.
The group attained 36 U.S. Top 40 hits, which is the most by any American band, and 56 Hot 100 hits with four No. 1 singles. All of the band's members have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and many of the group's later albums have been applauded by critics and fans. Brian Wilson has become an icon, being grouped with other influential singer-songwriters of the decade like John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Come dance along to the "Good Vibrations" at The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour today at 8 p.m. You can get your tickets at The Pavilion Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet or here. Preferred parking is sold out. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, click here.
Make sure to stop by the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion before and after the show! It opens at 5:30 p.m. tonight for The Beach Boys and remains open approximately one hour after the concert. Admission is free for all concertgoers. Enjoy air-conditioning, private restrooms, a full-service bar, appetizer menu and live video-feed of the concert from inside the tent! For more information, click here.
