Artist Spotlight: Jimmy Buffett
by Lauren Tennet
On Sat., June 2 at 8 p.m. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reffer Band return to The Pavilion. This will be Buffett's 17th time to jam out on The Pavilion stage with his devoted "Parrotheads" following him.
After a few failed attempts at breaking into the music scene from Nashville, Tenn., Jimmy Buffett traveled to Key West, Fla. Surrounded by a tropical landscape and hardworking fisherman, the place served as inspiration for many of Buffett's songs and the lifestyle he and his "Parrothead" followers lead. In 1974, the Coral Reefer Band was formed and in the same year, the band's song "Come Monday" became their first Top 30 hit. With new found success, Buffett soon developed a cult following. Albums titled "One Particular Harbor," "Riddles in the Sand," "Beach House on the Moon" and "License to Chill," have created an island atmosphere at the band's concerts that is unlike any other. Buffett likes to think that "Margaritaville" is a state of mind, and this feeling seems to follow Buffett wherever he performs. Vacations are planned specifically around the yearly Buffett tours and the pre-concert tailgates are well-known throughout the U.S.
Buffett's success isn't just limited to music. The singer/songwriter is an accomplished writer, having penned three #1 best-selling books and two children's books. He is currently working on his follow-up autobiography. Buffett also has made cameo appearances in several movies and TV shows. Finally, he is a businessman, owning the licenses for Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chains, a Margaritaville store and Land Shark Lager.
Although we may be far from the beach, the island vibes are sure to follow Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band at their concert Sat., June 2 at The Pavilion at 8 p.m. You can get your tickets at The Pavilion Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet or here. The Official Jimmy Buffett Tailgating Lot is sold out. Gates will open at 6:30. For more information, click here.
Make sure to stop by the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion before and after the show! It opens at 5:30 p.m. June 2 for Jimmy Buffett and remains open approximately one hour after the concert. Admission is free for all concertgoers. Enjoy air-conditioning, private restrooms, a full-service bar, appetizer menu and live video-feed of the concert from inside the tent. For more information, click here.
