Artist Spotlight: Kings of Leon

by Laura Beth Williams

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is pleased to bring back the southern garage rock sound of Tennessee-bred band, Kings of Leon July 30 at 7 p.m. Their talent hits The Pavilion's stage once again to showcase music from their fifth album, "Come Around Sundown."

Kings of LeonKings of Leon formed in 2000 with Followill brothers, Caleb, Nathan and Jared, and first cousin Matthew Followill after moving to Nashville, Tenn. and embracing rock music and the rock lifestyle. By 2001, the band signed with RCA Records and in early 2003, they released their debut EP album, "Holy Roller Novocaine." The following summer, the band's full-length album "Youth & Young Manhood" was released, coinciding with tours across North America and the U.K.

When their fourth studio album, "Only By the Night," was released in September 2008, it hurled the band into the mainstream, topping charts in five countries and landing the number four spot on America's charts. The 6.5 million copies sold worldwide allowed Kings of Leon to tour throughout much of 2008 and 2009, and earned them four Grammy Awards, including wins for their Modern Rock radio multi-week No. 1's "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody."

Kings of Leon continues to gain popularity and recognition with the release of their fifth album, "Come Around Sundown." Come out as they take The Pavilion stage this Sat., July 30 with special guests Band of Horses at 7 p.m. Get your tickets at The Pavilion Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet or here.  Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Visit the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion! It opens at 4:30 p.m. July 30 for Kings of Leon and remains open approximately one hour after the concert. Admission is free for all concertgoers. Enjoy air-conditioning, private restrooms, a full-service bar, appetizer menu and live video-feed of the concert, when available. Artist Spotlight: Ke$ha

The Pavilion also is excited to host a performance with young and driven pop singer/songwriter, Ke$ha, Tues., Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Ke$ha was born as Kesha Rose Sebert in Los Angeles and moved to Nashville, Tenn. at the age of four where her songwriter mother was offered a publishing deal. Ke$ha returned to LA before finishing high school in order to start her own music career instead of her plan to study psychology at Columbia University. She came into contact with Dr. Luke, the co-writer and co-producer of Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" among other hits, who was struck by Ke$ha's demo recordings.

KeshaKe$ha's big break came in 2009 when she contributed vocals on Flo Rida's Dr. Luke-produced "Right Round," a number one Hot 100 hit. She then signed with RCA and her debut album, "Animal," was released in early 2010. The album reached the top of the Billboard 200 and included the number one single "TiK ToK." By the end of 2010, she released the EP "Cannibal" featuring the single "We R Who We R" and in 2011 released "I Am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance: The Remix Album."

Party with this up and coming pop star and openers Spank Rock and LMFAO at The Pavilion Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Get your tickets at The Pavilion Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet or here.  Gates open at 6:30 p.m.

Visit the House of Blues Hospitality Tent at The Pavilion! It opens at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2 for Ke$ha and remains open approximately one hour after the concert. Admission is free for all concertgoers.
