The Texas Music Festival Orchestra Returns to The Pavilion for a Free Performance June 17
by Laura Beth Williams
The Pavilion hosts the Texas Music Festival Orchestra with
Made In America June 17 at 8 p.m. Enjoy a free performance by talented young musicians from around the world in conjunction with the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival Orchestra.
The University of Houston Moore's School of Music sponsors the intensive four-week program that allows young musicians to study under the guidance of an international faculty of artists, teachers and conductors. Participants not only perform together but also compete against each other for a finalist position that features them in the show.
Conductor of Made In America, Mei-Ann Chen leads the young musicians in an uplifting performance of Jennifer Higdon's "blue cathedral" and is followed by Aaron Copland's Symphony No. 3 which reflects both the bright outlook and struggles of war time. Come early to for pre-concert activities beginning at 7 p.m. in the Fidelity Investments Plaza including Pavilion Talk with noted musician scholar and college professor Ira J. Black. This is one summer concert extraordinaire you don't want to miss!
