Arts Spotlight: Houston Symphony Presents Dvořák's Cello Concerto
May 20
The Houston Symphony presents Dvořák's Cello Concerto May 20 at 8 p.m., featuring the composer's impressive final concerto. The piece is rich in expansive melodies, beautiful lyricism and extraordinary brilliance. Charismatic cellist, Alisa Weilerstein, brings her passionate interpretation to Dvořák's masterpiece. Weilerstein is a veteran on the classical music scene having performed with the nation's top orchestras, given recitals in music capitals throughout the U.S. and Europe, and regularly appeared at prestigious festivals. She is also a dedicated chamber musician. Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 also is part of this classical concert.
Pre-concert activities in the Fidelity Investments Plaza begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at noon today and are $15 for orchestra seating. Mezzanine and lawn seating are free courtesy of The Wortham Foundation (tickets not required for free seating). Picnics are welcome (no outside beverages). For more information, click here. |
