A Rockin' Good Year for The Pavilion in 2010
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion's 2010 season has come to a close and it has proven to be another successful year.
According to Pollstar magazine, the concert industry's leading trade publication, The Pavilion ranked second in its listing of the top 100 amphitheaters in the world based on the number of tickets sold through the third quarter of the year. The Pavilion's ticket sales totaled 307,489 for shows played between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2010.
"We have had an incredible year, including an extremely busy month in September. The quality and variety of shows we have presented has been fantastic," said Pavilion President and CEO Jerry MacDonald. "I attribute the high ranking to a relatively strong Houston market and our booking partnership with Live Nation. The Pavilion is a great way to experience concerts and our location is one of the keys to our success."
The Pavilion had seven sold-out concerts this season including Buzzfest XXIV May 2, Jimmy Buffett May 20, Jack Johnson Aug. 18, John Mayer Sept. 5, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Sept. 24, Rush Sept. 25 and Buzzfest XXV Oct. 23.
Along with the Pollstar ranking, The Pavilion is nominated for the 2010 Pollstar Awards Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue. Winners will be announced at the 22nd Annual Pollstar Awards held on Feb. 5, 2011, in Los Angeles.
With hundreds of thousands of concertgoers attending nearly 70 events and the array of accomplilshments and honors, this year has been one to remember.
