The Pavilion Partners Raises $25,000 for Educational Programs at KISS Fundraiser

The Pavilion Partners Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser was held Sept. 17 prior to the KISS concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Guests enjoyed the hottest party of the year while supporting educational outreach programs offered by The Pavilion, including Musical Scores, Children's Festival and Fine Arts Education Day. The Pavilion's Board of Directors and The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Pavilion, invited guests to "rock and roll all night" and raised approximately $25,000 for The Pavilion's educational initiatives.

Kiss CakeTickets for the event included covered reserved seating to the KISS concert, VIP club passes, complimentary beer, appetizers donated by Tommy Bahama and dinner provided by Outback Steakhouse. Emmy Award-winning reporter and anchor for KTRK 13 Eyewitness News, Art Rascon, served as the honorary auctioneer for the evening.

Guests got a chance to "Shout It Out Loud" during the live auction, bidding on items such as an autographed Sting guitar, a Houston Astros VIP ticket package, an overnight golf package at Whispering Pines, two exquisite jewelry pieces and font row pit tickets for the concert, raising $13,500. The silent auction included unique items and packages created just for this event including a KISS memorabilia package, a Houston Aeros ticket package, a unique guitar-shaped wine rack filled with specialty wines, an overnight Galveston getaway package, a spectacular downtown arts package, great dinner and wine packages, fantastic Woodlands "staycation" packages and more. The silent auction raised $8,400.

After enjoying cocktails, delicious food and an exciting auction, guests joined the KISS army and rocked out to one of the most influential rock and roll bands of all-time. The KISS concert was the perfect ending to an evening full of good friends, great food and plenty of fun in support of the arts.

Music in Motion Continues to Be a Success

Music in Motion is an educational outreach program sponsored by The Woodlands Development Company in honor of Cynthia Woods Mitchell's commitment to the performing arts in our community.  This year, Music in Motion continues to be a success. It's made a meaningful difference in the lives of student musicians by giving them unique training experiences that impact the way they play music.

As part of this free program, professional symphony musicians assisted Conroe Independent School District band and orchestra students in their preparation for All-State competition. A total of 160 students signed up for the first installment of the program held Sept. 18 at Oak Ridge High School for oboe, trumpet, French horn, clarinet, flute and piccolo. Houston Symphony musicians included Allison Garza, piccolo and flute, Nancy Goodearl, French horn, Anne Leek, oboe, Chris Schubert, clarinet and Anthony Prisk, trumpet.

Music in Motion

The second installment of Music in Motion is Sept. 30 at The Pavilion from 4-6 p.m. prior to the Houston Symphony's The Planets-An HD Odyssey for approximately 100 students.  Instruments include violin, viola, cello and bass. Houston Symphony musicians for these master classes include Kurt Johnson, violin, Linda Goldstein, viola, Tony Kitai, cello and Eric Larson, bass. After the sessions, students are invited to stay for the performance and enjoy listening to the musicians they worked with earlier.

The final installment of Music in Motion this year is Oct. 2 at Oak Ridge High School for 150 students who play bassoon, low clarinet, trombone, percussion, tuba, euphonium and saxophone. Houston Symphony musicians include Elise Wagner, bassoon, Chris Schubert, low clarinet, Brian Logan, trombone and Meredith Nelson, percussion. Guest musicians include Bob Daniel, tuba, TBD euphonium and Scott Plugge, saxophone.
