One of my all time favorite movies is Mulan: the story of a young woman who poses as her father's son and enlists in the army so her aging and injured father won't have to fight in the war. I have so many journal entries about that movie that I will probably compile them in a blog. Meanwhile I'd like to share some of the revelations I've received.

I'd been saying I wanted to watch Mulan because I love that movie and the song BE TRUE TO YOUR HEART had been on my mind lately. I never got around to it but it was on Disney
today. When I tuned in they were already at the point where they were about to discover her gender. I watched until the end. Mulan got no respect as a woman, even when she saved her country some still disparaged her. But the emperor acknowledged her and her fellow soldiers bowed down to her. The same ones who dishonored and abandoned her. Then the whole country bowed down to her and she just had this look of amazement. I cried like a baby. It's such a powerful moment - when the persecuted are honored and celebrated. I'm crying again just describing it. I put in my tape so I can watch the whole movie.
I think I get so emotional because it's like witnessing God's promise. If you are faithful to Him, even though you are rejected and persecuted, in the end He will raise you up to a place of great honor.
As I watch from the beginning Mulan struggled to fit in as a woman. They were grooming her to be the perfect bride. She wasn't good at the protocol, etc. She was too smart in an intellectual way but she wasn't good at makeup and tea etc. But God had greater plans in store for her. She ended up doing what no one could do.

Last night I thought more about Mulan and I was excited about more revelation. If Mulan had been matched in the beginning with the very same man she ended up with, they would not have had a satisfying relationship. She would have had to walk behind him [according to Chinese tradition] and they would never have been real friends. But because of all they went through together they would have an awesome relationship. Not only will he be her husband, but her friend and someone who respects her. Mulan didn't go looking for a husband; she set out to help her father. The husband was an added bonus. There's a message in there somewhere.
