How to Streamline and Simplify
When my family and I were on vacation in Italy last month, we took delight in traveling on the train pictured here- the Eurostar Frecciarossa [one gets what they pay for]. When I lived in Italy in the early 1980s, it took 3.5 hours to travel from Florence to Rome by train. Thanks to improved technology and investment in the train infrastructure the same trip (same route) now takes less than 1.5 hours! Fantastic! I was able to maximize my vacation time (i.e. be more productive) and do more things while in Italy due to these streamlined enhancements.
Think of how your technology streamlines your business processes. By having a solid and stable IT infrastructure in place, everyone at your business as well as your clients and vendors who interact with you are able to do more. Be more productive, efficient and billable. These challenging times provide all of us new opportunities for our businesses to refine and enhance our processes to better position ourselves for next month and a year from now.
Do you have a scorecard for the performance of your business and do you review it on a regular and frequent basis? What are your concerns and what do you need to plan for down the road to keep your business stable AND growing? You have read and heard a lot about our CMIT Marathon program that manages and maintains business technology environments. Just as business owners review the numbers and people in their businesses, CMIT Marathon does this daily and weekly with your computers, networks, servers and more. By staying on top of your business and IT health, you have put your company in the position to succeed and thrive.
Keep IT Simple!
CMIT Solutions of Denver and our entire CMIT system (now more than 100 offices nationwide) have "Made IT Our Mission" to streamline and simplify technology for small and medium-sized businesses. While you continue to focus on taking your business to the next level, our firm will remain focused on the welfare of your business by keeping your technology in tip-top health.
Last and not least, enjoy the simple things in life. Notice this beautifully artistic case of Italian gelato. Such a simple thing to help make one's day special and memorable. Be more productive at work so you can enjoy the simple things in life.
If you want to discuss your business and how the technology can be streamlined to make things easier and better for your business, give me a call (303.756.2648) or send me an email.

The True Co$t of Fighting Spam
Checking my personal email last night, I paused to look at an email and determine how I knew the sender. Then, I looked at the message title and realized it was junk mail. I spent about 5 seconds before deleting the message. Luckily, my business email is protected by CMIT Anti-Spam, but I started to think "what if it weren't?"
Last year more than 62 trillion junk emails were sent world wide. According to a study by McAfee this equates to enough electricity to power 2.4 million American homes and gas emissions equivalent to 3.1 million cars.
I challenge you to think about how much time your company is spending in dealing with spam. Once you quantify how much spam is costing your company (cost of employee's time and creating "plaque" in your technology pipes), you may want to reevaluate your IT options. What does your company do to manage spam and determine if it makes sense to keep in-house or move to a hosted ("in the cloud") service.
Personally, I believe that email security as a hosted service makes sense for several cost-related reasons:
- Predictable expense: A spike in spam can hit at any time, and companies using an in-house solution may find themselves dealing with the unexpected expense of a new appliance/piece of hardware to deal with the volume.
- Save on maintenance costs. After installation, most in-house appliances require regular maintenance and upgrades. With a hosted solution, all the updates are handled by the vendor and there is nothing to worry about or budget for.
- More effective email security. With a hosted service such as CMIT Anti-Spam, you tap into a network of intelligence that spans thousands of businesses and millions of users, reaping the benefits of the economies of scale that come with that.
If you want help calculating the cost of spam for your firm, or if you want more information about the different options for spam protection, feel free to give me a call at 303.756.CMIT (2648)!
