Maratona di Roma and CMIT Marathon
I followed a prescribed, proactive marathon program for more than 20 weeks leading up to 3/23/03. I didn't let a record setting Denver blizzard nor the outbreak of the war in Iraq (same week as the Marathon) get in my way. I remained healthy while adhering to the program, during the 6 hours, 3 minutes I walked the course AND afterwards.
This is truly very similar to our CMIT Solutions' Marathon program for business technology environments. The program's purpose is to keep business technology running smoothly. Servers, computers and peripheral devices (e.g. routers, printers, mobile phones) are constantly monitored, maintained and managed proactively.
CMIT Marathon is known in the technology arena as a managed services program. This model turns reactive IT support on its head by focusing on prevention and maintenance. There is normally a flat rate, predictable monthly investment in this managed model of technology services. The cost savings is achieved by leveraging costs through an IT services firm, keeping systems running which boosts productivity, and stabilizing spending by putting the burden of uptime on the IT firm.
Once businesses have a stable and reliable IT infrastructure, they can turn their attention to leveraging that same technology in order to become more efficient, productive and profitable.

If you are intrigued by our Marathon proactive program and learning more about how it works, please call me, Debi, at 303.756.CMIT (2648) or send an email. May your technology run as smooth, stable and in good health as I was so fortunate to experience with my own marathon! |
Getting to An Empty Inbox
Last month, I wrote about how to get through reading my emails. This month I'm addressing the opposite issue of getting my Inbox to zero (or pretty close). I recently found an article in the New York Times that addressed this issue and, while I'm not quite at zero, the tips below have helped me drop way below the amount of messages I had previously.
-
LIMIT YOUR TIME WITH IT: Turn off all auto-notifications and don't look in your Inbox more than 3 times a day (we and time management experts really recommend twice a day).
-
CLEAR OUT YOUR INBOX: Set aside a few hours to respond to any important messages you've received in the past couple months. Move everything else to a new folder called "Archive."
-
ARCHIVE IT: Send any message that requires no action or response on your part into your Archive folder.
-
RESPOND TO IT: If it will take you less than two minutes to respond, do so right away.
-
FORWARD IT: If the message is better handled by someone else, forward it and then archive it.
-
HOLD IT FOR LATER: If it will take you more than two minutes to respond, hold the message for later and carve out a short amount of time at the end of the day to respond to all flagged email.

Turning Your Office Green
Now that Spring is upon us, I am once again reminded of how beautiful Colorado is. I also feel the pull to do my part to ensure that it stays beautiful. Going green allows any business to take advantage of some pretty generous tax cuts, reduce that skyrocketing energy bill, and save the environment at the same time.
Here are a few ways to go green in your office:
-
Get audited for energy use.
-
Give old technology a boost. Rather than throwing away old equipment, upgrade it (check with your IT firm about the newer energy efficient models).
-
Buy certified products. Look for Energy Star-certified computers.
-
Reduce when possible. Start with reducing your default margin settings in Word documents. Skip paper paychecks. Set computers to sleep after 5 minutes of idle time.
-
Go virtual. Use online collaboration tools (like web conferences) instead of flying to some destination.
-
Recycle responsibly. Don't throw away ink cartridges or computers - recycle them.
