Gross Catholic High School
Gross Catholic High School
Greetings!

This past September 24th, many of our students, staff, parents, alums, and friends gathered at Platteview Country Club for our annual "Cougar Classic Golf Tournament". Not only were we blessed with a gorgeous fall day, we continue to be blessed by the support and generosity of our entire community. The proceeds of the golf tournament specifically benefit our athletic and activities programs at Gross Catholic. The support we receive helps us to continue our outstanding tradition of excellence. We are so grateful to our many sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for their participation. Special thanks to our Event Chairman, Jeff Moore, class of '82, and also to our former Chairman, Tim Burke. Both did so much to ensure the success of this day. Thanks, also, to Lora Burke, our Special Events Director, and to the entire Advancement Office for their hard work in organizing this event.

This month, we welcome Kate Hansen to our Cougar family as our Development Director. Kate will be working together with the other members of the Advancement Office and will focus primarily on solicitation of major gifts, our annual appeal efforts, and the development of a planned giving program. Kate has spent the past 18 months as a Fundraising Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council and approximately 7 years prior as the Assistant to the Vice President of Advancement at Mercy High School. We are so looking forward to working with Kate as we firmly establish Gross Catholic for the future. And we look forward to our partnership with you as we continue our mission.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dorothy A. Ostrowski

The leaves are changing and the weather is getting cooler. Our academic year is moving forward and soon the first quarter will come to an end.  This marks a period in the academic calendar for Gross Catholic.  This period has teachers challenging students to continue learning and meeting their academic potential.  Teachers are also being challenged to continue learning and developing professionally.  We have an opportunity to go to our Catholic School Office Fall Conference, a professional development conference, where teachers will network with other Catholic School teachers and go to sessions designed to improve teaching.  This conference will help teachers to support each other as they continue to develop each individual student's academic potential.

The end of the first quarter also means that we will have a chance to visit with you at parent teacher conferences.  These conferences are an opportunity for us to continue building the relationship it takes to help our students.  We consider the academic development and faith development of each individual student at Gross Catholic our most important mission.  This mission takes a partnership between Gross Catholic High School and the parents.  As we work together to develop students to reach their full potential, this partnership becomes more important.  We look forward to seeing you and working with you at our parent teacher conferences on October 24th.

Sincerely,

John Schultz

Campus Ministry

October is a busy month in Campus Ministry. In small groups, our students continue to attend chapel each day during homeroom. This month our prayer takes the form of the rosary in celebration of the Virgin Mary.

On Monday, October 1 we will kick off Homecoming Week with Mass. Students should wear a white polo to show their unity as members of the Cougar family.

Senior Retreat

Our seniors will be attending retreat at the end of the month. The theme of the senior retreats focuses on Joshua 1:9: "I hereby command you: be strong and courageous and do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

As our seniors contemplate their future goals, please pray that the Lord will guide their choices and will equip them with courage.

Parents of seniors are reminded to send in their letters! Letters should be received no later than October 12.

Finally, we ask that you continue to pray for all of the students at Gross Catholic. Incorporate these 31 Biblical Virtues to Pray for Your Children into your daily prayer.
