Greetings!
This Lenten season, we gather in mission with Mary as our model and guide to bring Jesus into a world in need of justice and peace.
The Marianist Family asks us to be a part of a powerful social justice program focusing on the 40 least economically developed countries in the world. This program, 40 Days with the 40 Least, is a collaborative effort of the Marianist Family developed by the Marianist Lay Communities in Spain. They have grown this program over the years and it is now available in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese. This year's Lenten theme is on the topic of health care. In the year 2000, the Millennium Summit of the United Nations challenged governments to establish policies that would favor the development of all peoples and "to free our fellow human beings . . . from the dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty." Three of the eight development goals make direct reference to health - as development and health go together inseparably. Each day, Gross Catholic students will invite us to visit a different country through the first-hand experience of a person in that country. We learn about a specific social justice project that attempts to address the needs of health care. We learn about some of the issues faced in international development. We are called to respond in a small way with concrete actions of our own. We are invited to unite with our sisters and brothers through prayer.
You can visit the website by clicking on the icon at the right and view the daily social justice issue, suggested action, and the prayer the students will lead us in for that morning. We invite to join us on this Lenten journey. Sincerely, Beckie Cleveland, President

| Educate for Adaptation & Change |
Global Outreach Catholic Exchange Program Global Outreach is a program in which high school students from Eastern Europe come to the United States to refine their English language and servant leadership skills as well as experience a year in a Catholic high school with an active Catholic family. The GO program in Omaha currently needs host families for the 2012 - 2013 school year for GO students who will attend Gross Catholic. In the past, Gross Catholic has been able to accept two students, provided that host families are available. Host families provide a loving family for a student for the school year, but are not responsible for tuition and book expenses. For more information, click here or if you are interested in hosting a student or have questions, you can contact Chris and Craig (402-556-1554) or Sister Marie Alice Ostry (402-614-0177). |
