As demand for homes shot up between 2001 and 2006, some newly built and remodeled homes suffered from the effects of quick construction: subpar techniques, slapdash repairs and cosmetic fixes that masked deeper problems.
A JD Power and Associates study that logs complaints about new homes found that the number of problems reported per 100 homes rose 13% for homes built between 2001 and 2005.
