Sensible Social Cycling
Saturday, September 17, 10:00am, Upper Humber River
Leader: Dave Carthew (416) 737-0120 carthewd@gmail.com
A new cycle along the excellent, but lesser-known-and-used paved bike trail sections of the two main tributaries of the Humber River in Toronto's north-west. This includes the west branch of the Humber, for its full length with minimal duplication. Unlike the U.S., this area's trails retain a triple-A rating!
Meet at 10:00 in the south parking lot at Eglinton Flats Park, on Emmett Avenue, just west of Jane and north of Eglinton.
From there, we'll bike north along the Humber to the tributary fork split. We'll follow the river north to Steeles, then along backstreets with a stop at the Humber College Arboretum grounds (bring a snack), then hook up with the start of the river's west branch trail, cycling east to return. Bring plenty of water.
Full "rehydration" at a local pub afterwards.
This is a 41 km ride.
. Sunday, September 18, 9:00am, Tour to Mississauga Leader: Jane Darragh (416) 789-5489 jane.darragh@sympatico.ca Meet at 9:00am at the Mississauga Celebration Centre, 300 City Centre Drive (south of City Hall) for this 30 km ride. This event is organized by the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee. This year, the tour will feature the northeast quadrant of the City. Highlights include the start/finish, which takes place at renovated Celebration Square and each route contains the newly opened trail through Lester B Pearson Airport. All interested riders must pre-register for the tour at www.mississaugacycling.ca/tour/register. Please let Jane Darragh know if you are interested in joining the 30 km ride, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Further details, including registration information, please visit: www.mississaugacycling.ca/tour or call Jane. Sunday, September 25 9:00, Guelph Ride Leader: Bonnie Cook (416) 655-3857 bonnie.cook@sympatico.ca Meet at Centennial Arena parking lot on College Avenue West in Guelph. To get there, take the 401 west to Hwy 6 north (exit 295). Take Hwy 6 north to College Avenue West. Turn right onto College Avenue West. Take the first left into Centennial Arena. Follow the driveway on the left as it curves around a school property, past portable classrooms, to a parking lot around the back. There are washroom facilities at the meeting point. This is a 47 km ride with a few rolling hills. The road surface is partly crushed gravel and partly pavement. Be sure to pack a lunch, as there's nowhere to buy one en route. End of Season Get-Together Stay tuned for future up-dates and details about the Sensible Social Cycling end of season get-together! Checking a Trip Status via Twitter If the weather forecast is uncertain and you're not sure if the scheduled ride is a "go", we will post a trip status update by 8:00 a.m. at www.twitter.com/NTSCcycleGTA. You can also get Twitter updates on your cell phone by sending a text message: Follow @NTSCcycleGTA to 21212 and follow the instructions on your phone. Sensible Social Cycling 2011 Schedule

Mountain biking
Saturday September 17th, 11:00 am,Three Stages (Collingwood)
This is an exploratory ride. It's been a few years since the mountain bikers been there, so we'll be taking it easy. Let me know at mountainbikingskier@hotmail.com if you plan to join us and I'll keep you updated on the plans. Three Stages Directions: To get to Three Stages from Collingwood, follow Grey rd. 19 until it starts to climb up the escarpment. As it goes up the hill, watch for where the Bruce trail comes out of the forest on the right. At this point there is an unmarked road on your left. Take this road to the left until the end, where there is parking. The great riding is just further down the old road about a km. Check out the schedule for more details and contact information. .
