This herb has been used throughout the ages and was once thought to be the Savior of mankind (Salvia in Latin means Savior). It was also commonly used in treating several illnesses due to the fact that it was readily available.
Some of the things Sage is useful for are: cough, sore gums, nervous conditions, night sweats, laryngitis, sore throats and expelling worms. Sage is also credited with being a powerful antioxidant because it shrinks inflamed tissues, is antiseptic, and can fight infection of all kinds. This is why you will find Sage in several herbal cough syrups.
It can be used as a poultice for skin irritations, such as insect bites, but is also gentle enough to relax the stomach. With use, the liver may be improved and circulation stimulated. Sage is also beneficial for mental exhaustion and strengthens the ability to concentrate!
Here are some things to try with Sage:
· Sage Tea - Pour 1 cup of boiling water over ½ - 1 tsp. of sage; steep for 10 mins.
· Sage Vinegar - Fill a bottle loosely with sage leaves and add wine vinegar (not distilled)
·Sage Pillow - Fill a small pillow with dried sage leaves for a relaxing sleep
· Sage Oil - Dilute the essential oil in water or massage oil; never use without diluting
· Spice- Spread the sage leaves out to dry, but avoid direct sunlight
