Are You Getting Enough Potassium?
|
|
You may not have ever thought about it, but potassium has some great benefits!
Potassium may decrease your chances of stroke,
osteoporosis, and kidney stones from occurring within the body. Potassium is
an important mineral used to help the cells, tissues and organs in the body
function properly. It is also crucial for heart function and important for
skeletal and smooth muscle contractions, which also makes it important for the
digestive and muscular systems to work properly.
But did you know that
Potassium is an electrolyte? Electrolytes are the substance in the body that
conducts electricity (along with sodium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium). In the hot
summer sun, often our electrolytes get depleted which throws our body out of
balance and can cause undue stress on the body. So how do you
make sure that you are getting enough Potassium? The daily recommendations for
Potassium consumption is 4,700 mg per day, for both men and women. Heart, Kidney
and arterial disorders generally indicate potassium deficiency.
Foods High In Potassium:
Lettuce 67% Turnips 59% Dandelion 50% Cabbage 45% Parsley 41% Cucumbers 41% Cauliflower 40% Brussel Sprouts 31% Irish Potato 26% Carrots 25% Celery 22% Whey 21% Prunes 18% Bananas 16% Papaya 9%
Incorporate these into your diet to be sure you are getting your daily dose.
