Insist Upon Yourself. Be Original.

Jump right in to summer... "Um, I am not sure about that," you might say.
Sometimes shedding of layers of clothing for the warm season brings about some insecurities about our bodies. Especially living in Florida and being so close to the beach! But we can't control other people's opinions, just our own. Being comfortable in your skin really does matter; but only you can control that!
Feeling comfortable and healthy starts on the inside. Dunn Wellness has an April event that will help you increase your energy and vitality through getting a nutritional balance in an easy way! We also offer a weight management system and support that is very successful for our patients. They often feel like new people. In addition, we offer an incredible service in Cranial Sacral therapy. It can help you decrease anxiety, feel less pain and learn to exhale! Ahhhh....
This issue of Everyday Health and the staff of Dunn Wellness want to give you the tools to help you achieve that comfortable- in-my-skin feeling for the summer. We hope to see you soon!

Service Focus: Cranial Sacral Therapy
|
"Waiting to Exhale" Janet Carstarphen, Cranial Sacral Therapist
Have you ever
been so overwhelmed that it felt as though you were holding your breath?
Finally there is the moment when you exhale. The concept of exhaling is
something to consider when we enter Spring and the renewal of the life that the
season offers. With warmer temperatures, we no longer have restrictions on our
respiratory system and a deeper, fuller breath (inhalation and exhalation) can
be enjoyed.
I have noticed that the natural act of exhalation is not only a
necessary psychological aspect of life but essential in extending the health
and well being of our life force energy. How often do we hold our breath when
we experience or witness something painful or traumatic? This can create a
block to normal breathing and circulation. The body craves to be balanced and
will try to adjust these blocks spontaneously until the blocks are too much and
pain restrictions develop.
At Dunn Wellness Center, we see many people with chronic pain which reduces
their ability to enjoy life. With the warmth of the season, take advantage of
the Cranial Sacral Therapy we offer at the Dunn Wellness Center and allow the
body to let go of chronic pain (especially neck and lower back), digestive
problems, anxiety, sleeplessness, concentration problems, TMJ and sinus
congestion. Exhale!
Cranial Sacral Therapy is a subtle experience which offers a chance to improve
quality of life. This is achieved by recognizing a deep sense of wellness
within the body and working with these pain blocks by reorganize them in a
healthier, more energetic and efficient way. I work with the patient's nervous
system and through light therapeutic touch most patients feel more relaxed and
free of pain. Take the opportunity to breathe more completely and let go of the
holding patterns that have developed by waiting to exhale.

Herb
of the Month: Chamomile
|
Latin name:
Anthemis nobilis or Matricaria reticulata
Chamomile is an amazing herb for children and women. It has anti-spasmodic
properties which will help with ailments such as stomach aches, intestinal
pain, gallbladder attacks, menstrual cramps, teething pain, and tension headaches.
It also relaxes the body for quality sleep and aides digestion. A child or
person who responds to chamomile would be someone who is restless, impulsive,
highly sensitive or instantly yields to emotions. It is good for children who like to be
held or carried. Chamomile is commonly taken as a tea or used as an essential
oil.
To determine if Chamomile is right for you to use, here's a few
indicators:
Mood:
- Stubborn or easily excitable
- Insomnia at night and sleepiness during the day
Teeth and Face:
- Throbbing pain in face and jaw (particularly at night)
- Teething for infants and children
- Heat in one cheek and cold in the other
Digestion:
- Indigestion brought on by anger
- Painful flatulence
- Belching
- Constipation
- Sweating in response to eating spicy foods
Torso and Extremities:
- Hot sensations in feet
- Numbness in hands when holding objects
- Sciatica that does not respond to heat or cold
- Weakness or pain in joints
- Painful muscle cramps
- A feeling of heaviness in legs
