With the beginning of each New Year we put too many expectations on ourselves about a number of things we want to change and then
get frustrated with ourselves if we fail to maintain that change. Maybe your
goal is improved overall health, reaching a healthy weight, or increased productivity. My challenge
to you is to pick one thing....yes, just one...that you would like to focus on for
the year. Then start making those changes in small ways that you can achieve.
Statistics show that most New Year's resolutions wane after less than a month
and only 20% of people continue through Valentine's Day.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve
greatly. -Robert F. Kennedy
The truth of the matter is that failure happens and it
happens regularly. But if you are afraid to do something because of the fear of
failing, odds are you won't try to do very much. We must face adversity in the
eye and continue on! It is through pressure, failure, stress and adversity that
we have the courage to get out of bed and try once more. Set short term goals
to accomplish and reward yourself at each mile marker.
My resolution for the
year is simple. Every day I have resolved to reflect on the gifts in my life
that I am thankful for. Some of the things that I am thankful for are health,
family, good friends, a warm place to sleep and a roof over my head.
If one of your resolutions is to be in better shape and at an ideal body weight, please come to one of our free talks in January (see below). We have some great advice and good products and services to help you achieve your goals - one day at a time.
Have a wonderful 2010 and if there is anything we can do at Dunn Wellness Center to help you achieve your resolutions, let me know.
