Jesse McKinley
San Francisco Bureau Chief
The New York Times

Jesse McKinley has been The Times Bureau Chief in San Francisco since 2006.  He summarizes his life in the bureau thusly: Acteva "(I have) followed firefighters into fires, accompanied politicians to their meetings and gay couples to their weddings and chronicled the efforts of a 150-year-old drinking society to put plaques on every historic site available."  McKinley began at the Times as a copyboy, spent time as Broadway Theater beat reporter and now works for the national desk leading a bureau covering a wide geographic area throughout Northern California.  Reserve now for this rare opportunity to meet up close and personal with the friendly local face of the New York Times.

From PRRT Member Janet Lynn
After 33 great years with Business Wire, Janet Lynn has decided it's time to give back in the non-profit arena.  To get started, after June 1 she'll be returning to her college roots as a credentialed teacher to become a reading coach and mentor in grades 1-3 through Experience Corps. It seems not many have heard of EC even though they've been in existence since 1995 so Janet hopes to help with local public relations/media relations and volunteer recruitment, as well.

Be careful when you talk to Beverly Butler, past Chair and current board member of SF PRRT, because you might just end up in the Wells Fargo annual report!

That's what happened to PRRT member Gerry Corbett who casually mentioned one day what a big fan he was of Wells Fargo Online Banking.  Beverly, who heads up PR for
wellsfargo.com, asked if Gerry would be comfortable saying that to a larger audience.  Three months and one photo shoot later, Gerry is the star of Wells Fargo's 2009 Annual Report, page 15, with three glamorous photos and quotes galore.

The annual report is available online and distributed to hundreds of thousands of Wells Fargo shareholders, as well as Wells Fargo's 274,000 employees.

Highlights from April
thrive
Diane Gage Lofgren
Senior vice president, Brand Strategy, Communications and Public Relations, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan & Hospitals

A sold-out crowd was treated to a cool, multi-media overview of the THRIVE campaign.  The architecture of the award-winning THRIVE campaign:
  • is built upon the primary Kaiser missions/messages;
  • enlists every Kaiser employee and health care provider as an ambassador;
  • is integrated into every Kaiser communication vehicle and technically connected to key Kaiser audiences via productive social media;
  • measures results and evolves;
  • illustrates a positive, empowering, clear connection between its services and its customers;
  • and got 'C.J.' Cregg to be its voice.

Count on this:
THRIVE is to branding, as Johnson & Johnson is to crisis communications
... will one day be on the S.A.T.s.

Coming in July -- a closer look:
An article co-authored by Diane Gage Lofgren is now set to appear as the cover story for the July issue of Marketing Health Services magazine (a publication of the American Marketing Association).  We will get April lunch attendees and PR Round Table members a copy of that piece.

Diane Gage Lofgren leads the critical work of positioning Kaiser Permanente in the hearts and minds of their key stakeholders through public relations, issues and brand management, and corporate communications.  Also co-leader of national marketing, she will give us insights into the ongoing, extraordinarily successful THRIVE campaign for Kaiser Permanente -- the nation's largest not-for-profit health plan, serving more than 8.6 million members.

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Diane led marketing/communications for several national and regional health care organizations, in addition to owning her own full-service public relations and marketing agency.  The author of national magazine articles on business and personal relationships, and management and marketing, she has published seven books and is currently at work on her eighth book.  The Public Relations Round Table is pleased to offer this instructive and dynamic program, guaranteed to help you thrive.

Again, thanks to Hosting Sponsor for the April Speaker:
Sheri Cardo (Sonoma Land Trust)

FOR A CLOSER LOOK - PRRT Members & April Lunch Attendees will receive a copy of a feature being co-authored by Guest Speaker Diane Gage Lofgren (coming in July 2010).
