| Greetings!
According to the US Census Bureau, the enrollment of College and Universities for the fall of 2011 topped 19.7 million students. This is up from 14.4 million students in 1991. Not only has our mission field grown by 1/3 over the last 20 years, but the way we reach students has changed significantly as the culture that we have to negotiate on a daily basis has changed dramatically. Add to all of this the economic downturn that is affecting all of our ministry budgets. All of this is enough to make you want to through up your hands! However, there are 3 things that I would remind you to keep in mind as you continue to reach out to college students.- Hebrews 13:8 tells us "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow"! It matters not what goes on in the world, Jesus is the same and his call for us to reach students is the same!
- Major on the Majors! Don't get side tracked by all the issues surrounding your ministry. Do what is important to reaching Students. Share Christ with students every day, grow student that are followers of Christ and connect them with His bribe, the Church. If you are not doing these 3 things you are not majoring on the majors!
- Nurture your own spiritual needs and the needs of your family. Do not neglect your time alone with God and quality time with your family. This is where we get our strength to do our ministries!
There are several very significant events that are just around the corner that you may want to be involved with.
- Beach Reach We are filling up fast, but you still have time to plan to bring a group of students from your campus or church to help share Jesus with other Students during spring break!
- Called to Serve Jack Easton is working with NAMB to continue the conference for Students that felt called of God to serve in a Christian vocation. The name has changed from Kaleo to Call 2 Serve, and LifeWay is continuing to work closely with NAMB and Jack Eason to help continue this outstanding meeting. It really fills a training gap for those that have been called to ministry. There are two meetings scheduled for this spring. Find out more about the meetings at this link.
- Collegiate Summit I am really excited about this event!! It is going to be outstanding. We have great speakers (including Gabe Lyons, Pete Wilson, Eric Geiger) and some really terrific breakout times that will help you be a better Collegiate Minister!! To register or get more info, click on this link. This meeting would be great for those who volunteer in your Collegiate Ministry, such as teachers, parents, and even pastors who preach to college groups!
A great new Bible Study resource as just been released by Threads that I think is a great resource dealing with some really big hurdles that student struggle with. The title is
The Seven Deadly Sins.

 What Does Real Ministry Cost?
We live in an age of increased financial austerity in ministry, especially in the world of collegiate ministry. Staff positions are being eliminated, budgets are being cut, priorities are being shifted, and everyone is having to learn to do more, or at least the same, with less. Finding alternate streams of support are becoming more and more vital to our continued existence, not just in ER areas but across the Bible Belt. It's a time of intense hand wringing and increased frustration.
What are some of the things we can focus on that don't cost money? (MORE)
