Greetings!

By the time you receive this Newsletter, we will probably be in the middle of Collegiate Week at Glorieta! This years' event is a sell out! It is always an exciting week of renewal, fellowship, information and seeing God Work in the lives of College Students! As a local Campus Minister, it was always the first event to help kick off a busy fall. One of the things that I always watched was to see the impact Glorieta had on my leaders as they returned to our ministry in the fall. They always came back fired up and ready to go! If you can get some of your key leaders to go with you each August to Collegiate Week, it is almost a sure thing that they will be better leaders in your ministry in the fall. Put it on your calendar for next year. The Dates are August 5-10.

The first of the fall semester are key for you ministry to reach students! Students are being recruited by almost every group on campus. From Greeks to ROTC, from service groups to clubs, everyone is reaching out to capture new students. Collegiate Ministry must work hard to reach out to these same new students to reach them but not just to grow our numbers but to help them hear Christ's message for them. They are very spiritually interested and we have an opportunity to connect with them, but after the first 3 weeks, they have set their patterns. So work hard with lots of outreach at the very beginning of your semester!

LifeWay did a research project several years ago and asked young adults what there are looking for in terms of a small Bible Study group. We found they are looking for 4 basic things. 1.) They want someone to know there name and to be their friend on Campus. 2.) They want to study God's Word and see how it applies to their lives as they leave each day. They don't want to come to a Bible study just to hear someone's testimony and have a cookie. They want depth! 3.) They don't want to just study God's Word, they want to put it into action by making a personal difference. 4.) They want their campus group and their church to be working in a larger arena bringing about a change in the world. This sounds like what BCM and Collegiate Churches are doing through their missions' projects! These four pillars is what Threads resources have been built around. If you are looking for outstanding small group materials that will help on these emphasis, visit the threads web site at www.threadmedia.com .

10-10-10 This is an emphasis that Doug Hunt has started at Clemson University. It is asking folks to pray for Collegiate Ministers and College Students on August 10, at 10 am for 10 minutes. I love this emphasis!! I would love to see every campus in America commit to this emphasis. It may be too late for some of you to do this year, but it can be something we can all put on out calendars for 2012. Go to this face book LINK and like this page!

God bless you as you start a new semester and know that I am praying for you!

FRESHMEN

REACHING FRESHMEN

Reaching out to freshmen is one of our most important tasks. The following are some ideas you might consider using to reach freshmen for your ministry.

 SNO CONEFRIENDS FOR LIFE
Each August, as new  students make their way  onto our campuses,  anticipation grows as we  consider the question, "Who  will I meet today whose life can be impacted by my life and ministry?" An appropriate question, as we certainly do what we do in the belief that we will be used of God to make a difference in the lives of others.

But let me offer an alternate question: "Who will I meet today whom God will use to have an impact on ?"

3 Key Words for Your Fall Ministry

In the last minute rush to do all the details before school starts, sometimes it helps to remember some of the main things.  There are 3 words I believe are key in ministry to students.  They are Ownership, Identity, and Example.

sbccampusconnect
Connect High School
Seniors to Campus Ministry

Please help us connect the 2011 High School Seniors from your area churches to the collegiate ministers of the colleges or universities they will attend in the Fall of 2011. You can do so by using and encouraging the use of sbccampusconnect.net, the Transitions Ministry Website of our SBC.
At Collegiate Week, college students are discipled and immersed in biblical teaching just before the fall semester begins. As we pour into students they are encouraged to go home and impact their campuses for Christ.
Leaders love Collegiate Week, too! As a training event for leaders, you'll have a great opportunity to network, share experiences, and continue learning how to reach college students in your community and on your campus.
Meet us in beautiful Glorieta, NM to relax in the mountains and reconnect with your students before the craziness of the fall semester begins.
Date: August 7-12, 2011
