The National Collegiate Ministry Division of Lifeway Christian Resources has launched a new Transitions Ministry Website to help connect high school seniors with the collegiate minister of the college or university they will attend. The website, www.sbccampusconnect.net, is designed for access by youth ministers, parents, grandparents, Sunday School teachers, church staff members, and high school juniors and seniors.

Greetings!

What were you doing in 1991? Where were you living? What did your favorite pair of shoes look like? (Maybe you should get a new pair.) Were you in college ministry? What were the students like?

1991 was the year that I met Arliss Dickerson, David James, and Jerry "The King" Lollar. It was the year that I got my hair cut way too short and did my first "Survival" week-end for new Freshmen.

Also in 1991:

-The Silence of The Lambs and Thelma & Louise were popular movies.
-Pearl Jam, Michael Jackson with Black and White, and Amy Grant were popular musicians.
-The Internet was made available for unrestricted commercial use, and the number of computers on the net reached 1 million.
-The cost of a gallon of gas was $1.12.
-Sharon Pratt Dixon was sworn in as mayor of Washington, DC becoming the first African-American woman to lead a city of that size and importance.
-The Baseball Hall of Fame voted to ban Pete Rose.
-The Dead Sea Scrolls were made available to the public for the first time by the Huntington Library.
-Sony Bono was elected to the U. S. Congress.
-The majority of Freshman students who will walk on your campuses next month were born.

Those born in 1991 and other collegians need you.  They need to know Jesus.  They need to learn to follow Jesus and seek His guidance for the life-shaping decisions they will make while in college.  They need to get a vision for the world and God's desire to use their lives to impact the world.

Thank you BCM Directors, College Ministers, and Sunday School teachers for investing your lives into college students!  As you read through this newsletter, may you discover new tools or be reminded of some old ones that will help as you minister to those who were not potty trained in 1991. Your work is significant!

Blessings,

Simple College Ministry

As you start the last lap of planning before the fall semester starts here are some thoughts on how to do "Simple College Ministry". One thing that influences these ideas is the number of college ministers I have talked to this summer who have experienced or anticipate budget cuts.

IMPORTANT INFO:  Programming for Children of College Ministers
1. The conference center staff at both Ridgecrest and Glorieta will provide Child-care and Day Camp for children from birth through grade six. This is quality programming. Please let your staff know that this service will be provided for their families. Participating children will have to pay the $55 program fee.

2. The conference center staff will once again NOT provide programming for youth who are attending collegiate week.  There will be NO program FEE for youth. However, David Englehart and Wes Hughes, State Directors and youth parents, HAVE put together a program for youth who attend Collegiate Week at Glorieta.  The youth minister from David's church, Josh Salazar, is coming as a volunteer to lead this for our students AT GLORIETA ONLY.

STATE LEADER'S LUNCHES:  August 2 @ Ridgecrest & August 5 @ Glorieta.
