We had a blast at the plunge! The brave volunteers raised 2.5 million dollars for the Special Olympics of Maryland with over 11000 plungers dipping into the Chesapeake. Thank you to all who supported ours and others' efforts to raise money this year. Whether you joined our team, joined another, donated money, thought about us or watched it on TV, we all truly thank you and hope that you will consider joining a team next year!

Photo Details ►Date taken - November 2008 ►Location - C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry @ St. Mary's Govans, Baltimore City ►Context - Each year a group of students at Loyola College solicit food and monetary donations from the entire Loyola community to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner  Food bags, complete with turkey to persons and families in need of such at the holidays. These bags are distributed through C.A.R.E.S. In previous years, C.A.R.E.S. has requested between 100 and 120 bags. THIS year, 187 food bags were needed. The picture, titled "Signs of the Times" shows bags #28 through #187 lined up on the floor of the storage area just minutes prior to distribution. Photographers Statement►The moment I learned of the "Food as Art" photo contest, the picture that immediately came to my mind was the sole one I submitted and titled "Signs of the Times." I had just taken it the week prior for the purpose of sharing it with the Loyola community, so that they would see the cumulative result of their generosity. However, in these very lean times, and especially lean for those who have been struggling for some time, the scene -- the bags seemed to really capture, among other things, "Food as Art."
