Food + Wine + Your Photos = Gallery Showing at Grand Cru
Grand CruWe're teaming up with Grand Cru Wine Bar across our court yard to bring you the best photo contest of 2008. Why is it the best of '08? Food. Hot food, cold food, cooked uncooked, from the land or from the sea. Your take on one of our basic human needs could will start off your 2009 right with your own gallery showing for the full month of January at Grand Cru complete with an opening night party for family and friends. The winner will display their photos to all who enter Grand Cru and can set their own price for print copies.
 
First prize is the January 2009 Photographer of the Month at Techlab, and runner up is a $25 gift card from Techlab.
 
Entries should contain your edible image and be 8x10 or 8x12 in size (prints at the show will be 11x14 or 12x18 and can involve other items than food). Entries should be dropped off at Techlab September through November 30.  Entries will not be judged by any Techlab employees or its owner. Entries can be but are not required to be printed by Techlab and no weight will be given to those printed or not printed by Techlab.
 
No purchase necessary. See store for details.   
Student Discounts!
College  
Supplies for the darkroom, services for both film and digital classes. Program beginning fall, 2008. Details will be available approximately August 15th. All you need to do is show valid, current student ID from your college or high school to receive your discount. Reading this in print or had it forwarded to you? Be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter to receive updates and additional discounts! Download our flyer and feel free to pass the word!
 
Faculty Members! Contact Dan at the store to find out about supplying your school with everything it needs for the upcoming school year! Supplies, paper, fundraising opportunities, courier service, gymnasium/auditorium decoration are just some of the ways Techlab wants to work with local schools.

WE ARE BACK IN HOWARD COUNTY !
Construction is nearing completion and we are targeting an October 1 opening. More details to follow. Ads will be appearing in Howard County Magazine and the Smart Shopper - look out for them!  
 
After almost two years (can you believe it's been that long?), Techlab returns to Howard County! On or about September 1st (watch for details), Techlab will be opening a second location in the Maple Lawn neighborhood just south of Columbia. Located near the intersection of rt. 29 and rt. 216 in Fulton, Maple Lawn is a growing community of residential neighborhoods, businesses, & schoolsMaple Lawn. There are plenty of dining and shopping options for you to see while visiting our beautiful new store located at 8170 Maple Lawn BLVD on the first floor.
 
Some current retailers include: Bellisimo Flowers, Bra-La-La, Calico Corners, the Daily Grind,  Hyatt, i.m. Wine, & the Pearl Spa & Boutique. See the Maple Lawn Web Site for more information.
 
What does this mean for you? If you are closer to that side of town, you can visit us without spending as much time in the car or money on gas! If you are from the city or points east and north, it's a great place to visit and have a good meal while having prints made and memories preserved at Techlab! If you know anyone in the area please let them know we will be there soon!

Vacation Promo

 
Our vacation promotion was quite successful covering 5 continents (sorry, no penguins or kangaroos this time...) and 22 states. Pictures were printed from such far away lands as Japan, India, Uganda and Peru. Thank you very much for sharing all the fun from your trips with all your friends from Techlab! See you next year!

Photographer of the Month!*
Kelly Connelly

Kelly is a native of Baltimore with over 10 years experience in photography. The majority of her work is music-related, and has been published in such notable media outlets as the Baltimore Sun, City Paper, Philadelphia Enquirer, and Music Monthly (of which she is the editor), as well as Dan Rodrick's coffee table book on Baltimore. Her work has been exhibited at the Creative Alliance at The Patterson, and will be part of an upcoming photography exhibition at the Red Queen Gallery in Onancock, Virginia. 

Kelly C
A graduate of New York University with a B.A. in Art History, Kelly has taught Photography, Art, and Art History to high school students. She currently teaches Photography to ages 6 through 18 as part of the Creative Alliance's "Open Minds" program. At Techlab, she teaches one-on-one digital photography classes to students of all ages and experience levels. Kelly is also the Communications and PR Coordinator for Healthy Teen Network, a national nonprofit organization whose focus is promoting positive health behaviors among adolescents.
 
She has been a Techlab Photo employee since summer 2006. She is available by appointment for one-on-one and small classes for camera instruction, kiosk instruction personalized to your knowledge level and your particular camera. If interested, contact her by email.
