iAppinar
No matter where I go, no matter what group of educators I am with it seems that everyone is using apps on their phones and devices. The conversation inevitably comes around to, "We should have an App Share." Wouldn't it be great to just sit down and share favorite apps? Unfortunately, we always get too busy and never seem to make the time to get together to share apps. Today I was inspired to bring us together informally to share our favorite apps (Apple or Droid - it doesn't matter) because teachers are busy people and frankly don't have the time to go to an app sharing event even if it would be a lot of fun. This "tuesdays" is for those of us who use apps, love apps and just have to share what the best apps are.

Apps were made famous by the quote, "There's a app for that!" We come to rely on our apps for information, entertainment, education and inspiration. Yet, apps are a VERY new creation. I looked up the history of apps and found a cool Slide Share presentation that claims that apps were actually created in 1998, but there were no devices to make them come alive. When the first iPhone appeared in 2007 the apps revolution began. What an industry. Are you catching that date? Apps are only 5 years old - wow. Today, I would like to invite you to a new way of sharing apps - the iAppinar (eye-app-in-ar). Starting next Monday, September 24th, I will be offering a webinar (a seminar on the web) for anyone interested in sharing your favorite app. In the style of "tuesdays," we will brainstorm as many apps as the group likes, but will highlight only one in detail. If it is as much fun as I think, I will continue every Monday evening until there is no interest. For those of you that cannot make it, I'll be sharing to post the findings for you on my website.

If you have never tried a webinar (a seminar on the web) before, I would like to encourage to try the iAppinar. It's informal, lasts only 30 minutes and limited to 8 per group. It can also be your own PLN (personal learning network) because no one is mandating it as PD and you are sharing your best experiences with apps with like-minded educators. If you don't have an app to share, you are still welcome to learn from others, but I challenge you to come back the next week with an app of your own. I considered calling it ColAPPorate, but iAppinar is a better description of a webinar about apps. The other cool thing about a webinar is that you can do it with more than one person from a single computer. For my west coast buddies, it will only be 4:30PST so you could gather a few of your friends and log on one computer and give us your best gift of an app. Can't wait to share with you on Monday!

How do you do the iAppinar? First, click on this invitation link. After you complete the form (only give you name and email address - the rest is unnecessary), you will receive an email invitation with all the details. Save it in a safe place until Monday! You will see that I have to approve the registrations first and I will be doing that a couple times a day so it won't be immediate. Keep checking for the invitation. Finally, on Monday evening, around 7:25pm EST, click on the link, fill out the basic information and choose to use the computer for audio. If unsure, use a pair of headsets. And of course, there's an app for that! You can even do the webinar with the WebEx app from your phone or device. What a cool world we live in today. I just giggle about it all the time. Hope to "see" you Monday!
