Websites of Note...

Each month, we add a dozen or so new records to our premier product for finding free, accurate, accessible and authentic legal information on the Internet: CassidyCat's Digital Law Library.

These are a few of the newest sites being added to the collection:

The U.S. Copyright Office has issued a report on "Legal Issues in Mass Digitization: A Preliminary Analysis and Discussion Document." Describing the tangle of issues at the intersection of book digitization projects and copyright law, this report seeks to facilitate further discussion among the public, interested parties, and Congress.

An initiative of Stanford Law School, the China Guiding Cases Project is publishing English translations of "guiding cases" released by China's Supreme People's Court and a forum for commentary and dialogue on these cases by legal experts throughout the world. The Project is intended to provide an avenue for worldwide understanding and contribution to the evolution of Chinese case law. The site contents are available in Chinese and English.

To report on "Cyber-Security: The Vexed Question of Global Rules," an independent Belgian security and defense think tank solicited the views of 250 leading worldwide authorities from government, business, academia, and international organizations. The resulting report provides a current global view of the cyber-threat, potential countermeasures, and future concerns.

CassidyCat's Digital Law Library records are rich with subject headings so your users will find these free resources in your catalog as an alternative to print or other electronic resources.

From the President's Desk,

We are proud to welcome to our professional cataloging staff Michael Herrick, a foreign language specialist. His linguistic strengths are most heavily concentrated in Slavic languages, but he enjoys just about any challenge. He has cataloged at the Center for Research Libraries, Harvard University, and Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in Jordanville, New York.

Cassidy Cataloguing is once again accepting original and copy cataloging projects in Russian, Polish, and all other Slavic languages.

In addition, our full-time staff includes Qing Fan, an experienced Chinese language cataloger. All modern romance languages are routinely cataloged by our regular full-time professional staff.

We encourage you to share this information with your Technical Services counterparts in your main campus libraries as our staff is not limited by subject to law and business. Our subscribers include medical collections, engineering, music, science and technical data, literature, and general studies.

Please contact me anytime to discuss specific projects at 973-586-3200 or joni@cassidycat.com
Sincerely,

Joni Cassidy

Cassidy Cataloguing Services, Inc. is the official cataloging partner of HeinOnline content.

What does this mean to you?
Not only does this mean that Cassidy Cataloguing has exclusive access to all content in HeinOnline's massive database, but it means that we have an open channel of communication with the publisher, resulting in only the best and most accurate information for our full MARC21 catalog records.

We encourage you to compare!
Our records are created originally by experienced MLS and JD degreed law catalogers. While we may use machine-processing to run routine clean-up or upgrading, we never produce records in this fashion. The difference is clear! Click here to see a real comparison of two records
Recommended Readings

An article written by Joni Cassidy and Jill Yael Milhorat is on a Recommended Reading list put forth by Cindy May of the
Office Pic
Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin (LLAW) chapter ofAALL.

The article, "RDA: What Does It Have To Do With Me?", can be found in the November 2011 edition of AALL Spectrum or online through Spectrum Online with your username and password.

A brief abstract from the article:
"The authors discuss how the new cataloging code known as RDA (Resource Description and
Access) will affect administrators, reference librarians, and public services librarians. They
emphasize RDA's goal of making libraries more visible and accessible to many more users."
