February 2012 - Volume 5, Issue 2

We Saw It On The Internet!

Last month we shared the Top Ten Library Stories of 2011 from American Libraries and shared a photograph from our own Ed Graham of the People's Library at Zuccotti Park and the protest at the Governor's residence in New York City during the Occupy Wall Street protests.

We have created a small gallery of photographs taken by Ed for anyone interested in seeing the People's Library during its peak and while being taken down.

Websites of Note...

Each month, we add a dozen or so new records to our premier product, CassidyCat's Digital Law Library.

These are a few of the newest sites being added to the collection:

"The current legal status of assisted dying is inadequate and incoherent. . . ," concludes a UK government commissioned study. The report studies the issue at length, and proposes a detailed new legal framework regarding assisted dying, including strict criteria and safeguards to prevent abuse of such legislation.

A recent report to Congress discusses American Jihadist Terrorism, describing homegrown plots and attacks since 9/11, the forces driving radicalization and terrorist activity, and the intelligence and law enforcement efforts and challenges in responding to this problem. "American Jihadist Terrorism: Combating a Complex Threat"

Two significant and complementary web sites addressing elder abuse are the National Center on Elder Abuse, established by the U.S. Administration on Aging, and the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly (CANE), located at the University of Delaware Center for Community Research and Service. The former is a federal resource center providing news, access to legislation, statistics and expertise on program and policy development. The latter provides the nation's largest computerized searchable database of elder abuse literature, including links to the increasing number of publications, reports, training materials, and other resources that are freely available online.

CassidyCat's Digital Law Library records are rich with subject headings so your users will find these free resources in your catalog as an alternative to print or other electronic resources.
