Greetings everyone!
Please note: Due to the October snowstorm (and lack of electricity and heat!) the Cassidy Cataloguing office will be closed until at least Wednesday, November 2. We apologize for this inconvenience and any phone calls which may have gone unanswered for the past few days.
Before the storm, it was a busy month at the Cassidy headquarters! We have completed the de-duplication project of all of the tens of thousands of HeinOnline records in our database! We are now able to offer multiple URLs on a single record for a title found in more than one collection. See below for a more detailed explanation.
If you have any questions about the newly formatted HeinOnline records, please contact us.
Cassidy Cataloguing will be exhibiting at the MAALL/SWALL Joint Annual Meeting November 3-5, 2011, in Lawrence, Kansas. Come swing by our booth for information and giveaways! During the meeting, Joni Cassidy will also be presenting at the Technology Petting Zoo - a presentation of a variety of gadgets ranging from iPads to Wordpress! Six applications in sixty minutes!
Have a great November and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

We have been working diligently at the Cassidy Cataloguing Services headquarters to revamp our database to better serve our subscribers! By now you have received your first file (or will in the next few days) of deduplicated HeinOnline catalog records.
An example of the streamlining of these records:
The title New York City Law Review is found in both New York Legal Research Library and the U.S. Core Law Journals. If your library subscribes to both collections through HeinOnline and both record sets through Cassidy, you would have received two separate records.
Our new process combines the URLs, and series entries, for both collections onto one record. If your institution is subscribed to both collections, we will leave both URLs on the record. If you're only subscribed to one collection, we will remove the URL for the OTHER collection.
This process removes the necessity for "Exclusive" and "Full" record sets. Your institution will now receive all records for all collections without ever duplicating a record. Previously, the "Exclusive" sets offered only those records for titles not duplicated anywhere else in HeinOnline. But, if your institution wasn't subscribed to one or more HeinOnline libraries in which the records appeared, it was possible to miss out on a record occasionally. With the new de-duplication process, there will never be a missed record.
We understand that many libraries have done in-house work to the records you receive from us and may not want to lose those changes by overlaying records. If your library has not made extensive changes, or if you're able to reapply changes to new records, we strongly recommend purging your current Cassidy records in favor of the new set. There is still time to receive a full set if your library had decided to only take updates.
We are very excited to be able to offer this great service to your institution and even more so because we are doing the work at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!

In the upcoming year, an article will appear in AALL Spectrum by Joni Cassidy on the importance of mentoring. Joni is a guru of mentoring and is very passionate about guiding individuals to success through intrigue, education and finding the right channels. She has mentored countless individuals over the years and feels that "there is no better sense of 'giving back' to the profession than to recruit and train our own next generation".
In preparation for National Mentoring Month in January, we would love to hear from you about your mentoring experiences! Did you have a mentor along the way? Have you mentored others? Please contact us and we will feature your story in our newsletter and as a guest writer on our new blog, Cassidy Cata-Blog. Thank your Mentor Day is January 26, 2012, but we would like to celebrate the importance of mentorship the entire month of January.
We will have more information soon on our website and blog, but please submit anytime by sending an email to natalie@cassidycat.com with the subject MENTOR. |

We are happy to make available Full-MARC21 catalog records for HeinOnline's American Indian Law Collection! The American Indian Law Collection is an "upgrade" to the U.S. Department of the Interior Collection and moving forward, all U.S. Department of Interior URLs will change to match the new American Indian Law Collection URLs.
Those of you subscribed to our U.S. Department of the Interior records have been notified of this change.
Pricing for the new collection of records, including the U.S. Department of the Interior records, is a one-time charge of $2,200.
A discount will be offered to any library who has already ordered the U.S. Department of the Interior records as well as any members of NELLCO, MALLCO or COSELL. |

Take advantage of Thomson Reuters' commitment to subsidize the cost for the first 4,000 records! Records available now - being delivered as you order! You may remember our first Pioneer Project back in 2006 when we were able to offer 2,000 records of Westlaw and Lexis e-treatise titles for only $2,000. That collection has grown exponentially in the years since 2006 and those pioneer libraries who purchased the records at their debut ended up with an unbelievable deal, paying only a fraction of their full value! Get in on the ground floor and receive the first 4,000 WestlawNext records for only $2,000 - a mere $.50 per record! We want to help you make the most of your investment! WestlawNext, the winner of the AALL 2011 New Product of the Year award, is an innovative, technologically advanced product which is taking legal research to a new level. In creating this product, we have discovered a rearrangement of content, title changes and new titles added. We have also noticed a few instances of content access restriction. An example of this restriction is the title "International Business Transactions" (Westlaw Database Identifier INTBUSTRAN). This title was previously available to all academic subscribers, but is now available only to those using WestlawNext. Contact us today for more information and sample records! |
