Effective immediately, the following collections will be contributed to OCLC to be included in WorldCat Local. Back in July, I moderated a program at the AALL annual meeting that included SkyRiver President, Leslie Straus, as one of the speakers. www.theskyriver.com is an online cataloging service, founded in Fall 2009 to give libraries and other bibliographical institutions a choice between OCLC and another bibliographic utility. SkyRiver's mission is partially to provide this service at a more affordable price than OCLC.
Today, I am pleased to report the preliminary results of discussions with Leslie Straus regarding Cassidy Cataloguing's MARC records. With the start of the new year, we will begin contributing our Publisher Cataloging-in-Publication (P-CIP) MARC21 catalog records to the SkyRiver bibliographical database. They will be available for use by all member institutions. Additionally, Cassidy Cataloguing has agreed to work with the technical staff at SkyRiver on behalf of new member institutions that subscribe to Cassidy MARC record sets so that their holdings can be represented in the SkyRiver database.
