Greetings!

Easter Greetings!  All the children of Liberia Mission and we at MHI wish you peace and joy this Easter Season!  Liberia Mission celebrated a joyous Easter, and we will be sharing more stories and photos from Liberia Mission, and Fr. Don Halpin's visit there, later this month.

Today's newsletter contains two important articles that we wanted to share with you.  Below you will find an article with links to information and the report on the investigation by the Conventual Franciscans.  We are also pleased to welcome two new Board members - Fr. Don Halpin, OFM Conv. and Jennie Martin.

Thank you for all you do to help transform lives this Easter Season.  Please consider a special donation to support the life-saving opportunities, formation in the Catholic Faith, medical care, and first-rate education provided by Liberia Mission.  As always, we thank you for your continued prayers and support and for all you do to bring hope and a brighter future for children living in poverty.

God bless you this Easter Season,
Bob

Report on Liberia Mission Investigation by Conventual Franciscans
Dear Friends,

The leaders of the Conventual Franciscan order have completed their investigation into the incidences of abuse by members of APUFRAM at Liberia Mission, Inc. in 2007-2009.

The report confirms that the actions taken by Mission Honduras International since first learning of the abuse in 2009 were appropriate and aimed solely at insuring the well-being and safety of the children at the Mission.

For the complete report and findings, including an analysis of the present situation at Liberia Mission, please click here.
MHI Welcomes New Board Members!

The Board of Directors of Mission Honduras International is pleased to welcome two new Board members - Fr. Don Halpin, OFM Conv. and Jennie Martin!

Fr. Don Halpin, OFM Conv. joins the MHI board after serving as Spiritual
Fr. Don Advisor since the summer of 2009.  He has just returned from a month-long visit to Liberia Mission where he provided a loving, healing Franciscan presence, serving as advisor, spiritual director, priest and compassionate listener to the mission children and staff.  His presence there is greatly missed and the children can't wait for his return!  Fr. Don's ministry as a Conventual Franciscan has taken him throughout the U.S. and eventually to Africa, where he lived for 12 years.  Much of his ministry has been in retreat work, working on Franciscan retreats, freelance retreat ministry, parish missions, and one-on-one directed retreats.  After a preliminary visit to Africa in 1984-1985, he returned as a missionary in 1996 and worked in Zambia and other countries of Africa (including Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya). In Lusaka, Zambia, Fr. Don directed a house of prayer called Assisi House, located at St. Bonaventure College in Lusaka.  He is presently located at a retreat center at Mount St. Francis, Indiana, where his retreat work continues.  Fr. Don is the director of a house on the property - Loftus House - where private and directed retreats are offered in a "house of prayer" setting.  MHI is deeply blessed to welcome Fr. Don to the board as he brings many gifts to our collective mission.

Jennie Martin joins the MHI board after years of tireless volunteer work
Jennie Martin on behalf of the mission and its missionaries.  Jennie and Ed Martin have been married for 32 years and own two small businesses - Acadian Graphics, a screen print and embroidery business, and Louisiana Gifts and Gallery, a wholesale business that celebrates all that is good about Louisiana.  They have three adult children and a beautiful daughter-in-law, as well as many dogs and grand-dogs.  Jennie joined the Catholic Church in 1980.  She and Ed have been members of St. John the Evangelist in Prairieville, LA since 1983 where they are involved in many parish ministries.  Jennie is an Extraordinary minister, a member of the Arts and Environment committee, an RCIA sponsor, and serves as a part of the Mission Outreach team.  She and Ed (who will be ordained a Deacon this summer) have hosted Evenings for the Engaged for 20 years.  Jennie is passionate about life issues and mission work, which they have been involved with for the past 8 years and will do so "until God calls us home".  Jennie writes, "I am humbled to join the MHI board and will prayerfully help any way I can.  I feel like we are a mission experiencing a rebirth and are heading in the right direction.  I am very excited about the future of Liberia Mission and a grassroots rebirth in Honduras."  MHI is blessed to welcome Jennie to the board as she brings her amazing passion and energy to the mission's work.
