Children of Hope: The Liberia Mission Story

Greetings!

As we journey through this Season of Lent, we hope you have been enriched by journeying into the lives of the children at Liberia Mission. This week, we are pleased to present Homecoming: Part 4  - a world premiere of the new Liberia Mission documentary series - Children of Hope: The Liberia Mission Story

Homecoming: Part 4 tells the story of Marcus Gborman and his family.  Marcus, one of the Mission's newer students and a consummate entertainer, is having a hard time adjusting to the structure of the mission and school.  His father, Eric, makes coal to sell and farms for a meager living.  It is Eric's greatest dream for Marcus to receive a good education, an opportunity he never had.  In "Homecoming," we follow Marcus as he visits his parents and learns what education means to his - and his family's - future.  Marcus' story illustrates just how rare and valuable education is in Liberia as it recovers, rebuilds, and looks to a better future for the next generation. Also in this issue, you will find information on ways to connect to Liberia Mission this Lent and the Prayer of St. Francis

Thank you for your continued prayers and support, and for all you do to bring hope and a brighter future for children living in poverty.

God bless you this Lenten Season,
Bob

PrayerPrayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
LentConnect with Liberia Mission this Lent

This Lent, there are many ways that you and your family can build a deeper connection to Liberia Mission and to those people around the world who are striving for a brighter future.  Below are several ideas:
  • Pray for the children of Liberia Mission, for all children, and for peace throughout the world.
  • Host a simple supper.  Invite people to donate what they would have spent by going out to eat.
  • Sponsor a child, or write a letter to your sponsor child and email it to us.
  • Learn more about Liberia, its history, connection to the U.S., and its culture.
  • Invite your faith-sharing group to get involved by praying, fasting, or giving this Lent.
  • Suggest to your book club that you read a book about Liberia or West Africa.
  • Host a movie night.  Here are several films about Liberia or watch the Children of Hope series.
  • Other ideas?  Let us know your ideas or what you plan to do this Lent!
