Here is how the matching gift
program worked. Any amounts donated
through May 31st marked as "Dewan Liberia Match" were tracked. The plan was to have The Dewan Foundation
match the first $20,000 of donations made for Liberia. Then my wife and I would personally match any
amount up to an additional $80,000.
The goal was to receive $100,000
from Mission Honduras International donors and have the Dewan match double that
amount for a total of $200,000. Instead,
our wonderful supporters donated $170,056.
As a result, my wife and I are going to extend our match to the full
amount for a total of $340,113.
The amount donated by supporters
is being used in Liberia
now to expand the orphanage by building a additional wing and by adding an
additional building for the girls. A
church is being built as well.
Additional land will probably be needed in the near future.
The matching portion of the
program will be staged based on the number of children at the mission.
Currently there are 32 children living and going to school at Liberia Mission.
The first $25,000 of the match has been sent to help expansion to 40 children.
Once 40 children is reached, a second $25,000 will be sent. A third $25,000
will be sent when they reach 45 children. A fourth $25,000 will be sent when 50
children are at the mission. For the extended portion of the match, $10,000
will be sent for each additional 10 students that are added up to a total of
120 children.
