Sellick: The History behind the Machine
Sellick Tractor The diversity of our customer base requires us to adapt and expand to meet the needs of those customers. The addition of Sellick rough terrain and truck mounted forklifts is an example of that change. But just who is Sellick the manufacturer, and how did they come into being? Here is their own history.

After a long association with a Ford Tractor dealer, Walter Sellick began building the company by modifying an industrial tractor supplied by Ford Tractor into a 6000 lb. forklift for outdoors use. A basic sub-frame, mast and counterweight design resulted in what is now known as the turn-around tractor series.

As the state of the art advanced in the design and construction of heavy duty lift trucks, the integral one-piece frame concept was introduced across all model lines in 1975. The basic Ford Tractor power train was retained as the basic power module for most models. By this time, the market for Sellick straight mast rough terrain forklifts was well established. The new rugged design and breadth of line (5000 lb. to 12,000 lb., 2 & 4 wheel drive) paved the way to increased sales through the early 1980s.

In 1987, a new component designed series featuring Perkins, Ford and Continental engine options, popular shift-on-the-go transmissions and See through roller masts were introduced with the SD and low profile SG Series. The introduction of the 12,000 lb SD Series forklift and our optional fully automatic Powershift transmission in the late 1990s ushered in the new millennium.

In 1995, our Truck Mounted Forklift was introduced. The TMF-55 features 5500 lb. capacity and is powered by a choice of Deutz or Perkins diesel engine. This product reduces turn-around time to a minimum thus maximizing the complete delivery system - driver, truck and trailer. Since the TMF-55 quickly and easily loads itself on the back of a truck or trailer, it saves valuable cargo space and eliminates towing a trailer.

In 2002, Sellick Equipment Limited became the sole North American distributor of the JCB Teletruk. This variable reach industrial forklift compliments the rest of our material-handling products with its unique forward reach and versatility.

In 2003, a new generation of low profile forklift was introduced-the SG-R Series. This compact high-powered lift truck was designed to maneuver in the smallest and tightest places.

In 2004, Sellick introduced the ergonomically-friendly S Series forklift. With an emphasis on operator safety and comfort, Sellick launches a new era of cutting edge forklift design and manufacturing.

Sellick forklifts are sold and serviced in every corner of the North American continent as well as overseas through a high quality, service-oriented dealer network. At present, Sellick has over 4,000 lift trucks in the field under its own nameplate. In addition, we have designed and manufactured forklifts and attachments for prestigious companies including John Deere, International Harvester, Kawasaki and Kubota.

Our 70,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility is located in Harrow, Ontario, Canada, just 30 miles south of Detroit, Michigan. You are cordially invited to visit our plant and meet the Sellick family along with the dedicated staff of professionals behind the products we produce.

If an outdoor forklift is what you need, Sellick builds the machine for you!

Additionally, if you need material handling equipment, from the simple pallet jack to the large rough terrain forklift Toyota Lift of Minnesota and your solution is just a phone call away.

Rental Department
For Once We're Not Asking You to Buy
Toyota ForkliftWhen you need to rent, rent the best - America's #1 selling lift trucks. It could be an opportune time to rent if your company expects an increase in business activity - or you're considering the purchase of additional lift trucks. Our quality and reputation for reliability make Toyota lift trucks ideal for rentals, short or long-term.

If you want to rent forklifts for more than a week, it's a good idea to have a Toyota Lift of Minnesota representative over for a visit. A pre-rental discussion should cover the weights and size of loads, lift heights, surface and operating condition, and any other special needs.
  • You should also discuss optional equipment such as extra lights or backup alarms - or any special attachments you'll need to use on your forklift.
  • For electric trucks, remember that you may need a battery charger and that many chargers must be hard-wired at your facility - which requires proper electrical service and an electrician to perform the hookup. A possible alternative is a plug-in charger, so be sure to ask about that.
  • Because rental rates are assessed on daily, weekly or monthly rates, you should have a clear idea of how long you want to rent the forklift. Sometimes you'll get a better rate by extending the time period.
  • Most forklift rentals are based on an eight-hour workday, a 40-hour week and 160-hour work month. Overtime charges will likely apply.
We figure that after renting a Toyota lift truck, you just might be sold on owning one. So don't let another shift go by without the dependability of a Toyota - call us today!

Next class scheduled for August 14th

No matter how you slice it, it isn't right. But in a tough economy and tougher job market employers are often requiring applicants to hold a forklift operators certification as a condition of employment. It's disturbing because the individual wasn't certified on the potential employers equipment or in their work environment. You can only see this prerequisite as a move to shift the cost of that training back to the individual.

Subsequently, with the aid and generosity of Toyota Material Handling, TLM is holding training classes for unemployed veterans at NO COST or obligation for our vets. After training the veteran will hold his or her certification card for forklift classes one through five.

We have already trained over sixty veterans this year, and will continue to help as many as possible. Please if you know of a veteran that could use this in their job search put them in contact with us.

Registration can be done over the phone, or by watching our event calendar link found at the top of most of our website pages. You can view the next event through this link.

They have served us, we all should work to do something to show our gratitude.
Service Department
Different Levels for Different Concerns
Alert Whether our technicians are at your site for a standard planned maintenance call, or simply perform a truck status survey after an emergency repair. They can/do often uncover additional problems that need to be addressed. These issues fall into one of three categories.

Level "A" required maintenance might be as obvious as a failure causing your lift truck to be inoperable, likely it was the reason you called us. Other examples perhaps not so obvious might be a frayed seat belt, a missing fire extinguisher, a missing operator's manual or a worn fork or chain.

All are problems that need to be addressed immediately and our technician is going to communicate that to you. We will not press you to repair them that day, quotes can be prepared and you certainly can weigh your options, but we will be clear that the problem exists and that we have an immediate responsibility to communicate them to you.

If you opt not to take immediate action you will certainly be contacted again, your customer service representative or CSR will follow up to insure the message was given to you, and to ask if you've made a determination on what course of action to be taken.

You can check out Level B and Level C here as well.

Parts Department
You Say Tomato, I Say Tomahto
Tomatos Regardless of whether you call it level of service, fill rate or shelf availability it comes down to one single definition...it is a measure of a dealer's ability to have the right parts on the shelf at the right price at the right time.

The goal of the parts department should be to maintain somewhere between 85% and 90% shelf availability in order to consistently service his customer base.

Shelf availability is comprised of three different components:

Warehouse Safety: Monthly Area Inspections
Safety Matters At Toyota-Lift of Minnesota we review and act on safety issues almost continuously. Perhaps the most intense work is done during our monthly plant inspections. Two individuals are tasked with specifically doing a physical walk around to inventory their area of concern.

Over time and with input from many sources we've even developed our own check sheet to be used during these inspections. The sheet has us review issues such as insuring working areas are clean and dry, gears or moving parts are guarded properly, extension and electrical cords are in good repair, and much more.
