Power and Economy - Orange and Apple
|
The choices of how to power indoor lift trucks has never been greater. A generation ago, the LP gas forklift offered the greatest flexibility, reliability, and precision control of the loads. In applications that have 50 or more forklifts, the fuel cell has become an option. More commonly, however, the switch to electric forklifts has gained the most momentum.
Some companies have been able to use advancements in technology to switch from LP gas to electric. Fuel savings, increased air quality, and greater reliability have all been solid justifications. Enersys, one of the market leading battery companies, has taken the initiative to place a justification calculator online. By entering your actual variables, a return on investment figure is easily calculated. It can be found at: http://www.enersysmp.com/ice/ICECC.asp
The propane industry has valid arguments supporting their cause. According to Johnson Propane, applications that demand high drive-line torque will benefit from the internal combustion forklift. The initial cost of investment is also lower. See http://tedjohnsonpropane.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-propane/propane-vs-electric-forklift for additional details.

For the Veterans - Training is Still Free
Help Towards Employment
|
No matter how you slice it, it isn't right. But in a tough economy and tougher job market employers are often requiring applicants to hold a forklift operators certification as a condition of employment. It's disturbing because the individual wasn't certified on the potential employers equipment or in their work environment. You can only see this prerequisite as a move to shift the cost of that training back to the individual. Subsequently, with the aid and generosity of Toyota Material Handling, TLM is holding training classes for unemployed veterans at NO COST or obligation for our vets. After training the veteran will hold his or her certification card for forklift classes one through five. We have already trained over thirty vets this year, and will be working throughout the year to help as many as possible. Please if you know of a veteran that could use this in their job search put them in contact with us. Registration can be done over the phone, or by watching our event calendar link found at the top of most of our website pages. They have served us, we all should work to do something to show our gratitude.

Aerial Work Platform [AWP] Annual Inspection
|
As summer approaches it is a good time to bring up ANSI/SIA A92.3-2006 standard for self propelled as it relates to inspections. Besides having your operators trained in how to use the equipment so they can avoid the dangers out on the job site, you should be of course paying close attention to the condition of your equipment. Beyond repairs, ANSI requires a sequence of inspections to be performed. Inspections are required every 150 hours of use, or every ninety days whichever comes first, and an annual inspection is required as well. The annual inspection per ANSI needs to be done by an individual qualified as a technician on the particular type of equipment, or one designed similarly to it. In short a factory trained mechanic. As an authorized dealer for JLG and Aichi Aerial Equipment, we have those factory trained technicians ready to get you up to standards with your inspections. Contact us soon and we'll be happy to go over your needs, and fit you to an inspection solution that will insure your equipment is operating safely.

When Wrong Costs Everyone
|
When a part is ordered incorrectly everybody pays something. From the costs incurred shipping the wrong part back, to the costs surrounding the processing of the credit memo. Then there is the additional time needed to redo the order, the extra freight and the big kicker the additional down time the machine suffers sitting there waiting for the right part to arrive. Point Loading and Wire Decking
|
There is a common misconception that wire decks can be used to support the weight of stored pallets. This is not the intended use. Pallet supports should be used for supporting the weight of a pallet or tote that does not reach, or cannot be supported by, the entire top surface of both the front and back pallet rack beams. Wire decks do have a capacity rating, however in accordance with ANSI standard MH26.2 the wire deck design must support the manufacturer's rated capacity for a uniformly distributed static load over the entire surface of the deck - and this includes the surface of the deck over the racking load beams. Loads should never be pushed onto or dropped onto a wire deck. Wire decks are not intended to be used as a platform or walkway, nor do they have any rating for Point Load.
