Greetings!
Thank you for taking a moment to review our second newsletter. We hope that this and future offerings contain something you may find useful in your business.
It is our goal to provide more informational content than "sales" related material, however you'll likely find some specials here as an additional thanks for your time and support.
Throughout this publication you'll see links leading to either our blog or that of our AWS division, we hope you'll take a moment to subscribe to those and continue to receive either daily or weekly updates through your RSS reader.
Sincerely,

Power Choices And Cost Of Ownership |
There are several things to consider when deciding the right way to power your forklift. Among them are: safety, reliability, productivity and purchase price. All of these variables are in the true cost of ownership. The conventional electric forklift application rarely needs 3 batteries per lift anymore to power it through the day. The advent of fast and opportunity charging has paved the way for fewer batteries in the mix.
Another variable on this subject that is often overlooked are rebates available form your local power companies based on efficiency. There are currently discussions between power companies and makers of battery chargers that involve doubling available rebates. Be sure to check with your sales professional on availability.
There also may be OSHA grants available if switching to another method increases plant safety. This can mean lowering the cost of a change.
Applying for these rebates and grants takes an active approach. Like anything worth while, it requires effort. The burden can be reduced by relying on your Toyota-Lift of MN sales representative to guide you through the process.

Enersys Green Initiatives |
It's a changing world, and Toyota-Lift of Minnesota with Enersys would like the opportunity to address critical issues with you, why you might consider the change from internal combustion lifts to electric powered, why reducing your carbon footprint by "going green" doesn't need to cost money, energy conversion factors we should know, the top ten reasons you should consider electric lift trucks, and more.
From very real fuel savings to rebates from the power company and tangible improvements in efficiencies, there are important reasons to ask for more information. Call Greg Sanders at TLM and go over what some of the first steps might be. |
Rental Department
Moving Forward Into 2010 |
First of all I would like to wish everyone a happy new year. I have been with the company twenty plus years now and have seen the highs and lows of good and bad years. I am here to help with all your rental needs with short and long term rentals from hand pallet jacks to warehouse lifts to large pneumatic lifts for outside use. We offer quick delivery for emergency rentals when your lift goes down or need extra lifts to get your job done.
We have just purchased a forty foot enclosed trailer to keep the equipment dry and clean when delivering rentals, repairs or new and used equipment. Call us and see why we're different from the other guys. |

Forklift Safety Training |
Spend any time on Twitter watching the keyword forklift and it seems you're exposed almost immediately to two very different types of postings, one from a set of individuals that seem to revel in some sort of crazy antics done on the equipment, and another set of postings that tell of the deaths that occur on or near the equipment.
If you watch for "forklift training" your exposed to two other types of postings, one type is questions from prospective employee's looking to find on-line sources, the other on-line sources looking for on-line customers.
Off site training offers worry me, it seems to open the door to opportunists to prey on individuals that don't really know the sort of skill that's required to operate this equipment, and enables employers to take a less than diligent approach to safety in this area. Perhaps one of the worst examples of off site training I've seen is a lift truck repair shop advertising jobs, and then quickly signing applicants up for their lift truck training. While what Riverside Forklift is doing is wrong on so many levels it typifies and legitimizes my concerns.

Repair Parts Inventory: No not just in time, it's "just in case" |
The title refers to the sort of inventory we have here at TLM. Unlike in manufacturing where JIT or Just In Time is the working paradigm, we have JIC. Or as coined I believe by Gordon Graham "just in case". Just in case someone wants it. In a previous post I touched on the tenants we hold regarding the stocking of repair parts in our parts department. In that post I spelled out these points: Toyota Lift of Minnesota for Toyota, JLG, Prime-Mover and Taylor-Dunn parts has for decades held these standards:
- 2 demands in a six month window has the part become a stocking part
- 3 demands in a twelve month window has the part become a stocking part
- Stocking parts will be held at levels that allow for fill rates in the mid ninety percent range
- Overall demand on the inventory from stocking and non-stocking parts will be maintained at a level over seventy percent
- Parts that are stocked and see trending to temporary stock [no longer meeting the criteria in the first two points] will not be returned to the vendor until they have seen no activity for a twelve month period.

More On Savings with Flexi |
The Flexi is a conventionally styled forklift that is easy to drive, and that works in about half the aisle of a conventional forklift. The concept from the beginning was to bring a flexible VNA (very narrow aisle) machine to the marketplace that is priced more competitively with conventional forklifts and reach trucks when compared to any other VNA product currently available.
