Student Self-Portraits Iowa Association of School Boards | When your school board attends the IASB Convention in Des Moines on November 18, 2010, they will be impressed with the self-portraits of students across the state that will appear in the program, on signs, and in the brochures about the Convention. Make sure your students' images are there! Many secondary teachers submitted student self-portraits, but there are only a few elementary students representing the elementary students. In fact, none were submitted from PreK through Third Grades! So the convention committee for IASB has decided to extend the deadline for your submissions to June 25. Even if your students have made self-portraits earlier in the year, they will love to do it again. Get out your digital camera and take photos of your students' self-portraits this week! The portraits can be 2-D, 3-D, black and white, or color. Here are the guidelines!

Share What You Do Best!
The Conference Committee for the Fall Conference, October 1-3, 2010 in Sioux City is looking for about 30 more presenters for sessions. Send your proposal to them today! The proposal form is available in Word or as a PDF File. If you have questions about proposals for workshops or lectures, contact Tammy Hoppe. One of the Keynote speakers at the 60th. AEI Conference has been announced: David Warlick - keynote speaker on Friday afternoon at the Sioux City Art CenterAccessing, processing, building with, and communicating information will be a major part of our daily occupational, professional, and personal work and play. Being literate in this future will certainly involve the ability to read, write and work with numbers. However, the concept of literacy - "the basics" - in an information-governed technology-rich world will be far richer and more comprehensive than the 3Rs that continue to define schooling for many. This enlightening and thought-provoking address will describe how our notions of literacy must expand to harness a rapidly changing information landscape where content and knowledge are increasingly networked, digital, and overwhelming. -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
2010 VSA Arts on Fire: Focus on Iowa Core Curriculum
| This class, which is available for staff development and graduate credit every year, is a fun, hands-on way to learn about the latest techniques and materials, and how arts activities can be adapted to accommodate diverse learners.
An overview of the Iowa Core Curriculum and the 21st Century Skills will enable participants to reflect how they are currently implementing skill-based, creative and critical thinking in their own classrooms.
This class is appropriate for arts teachers, as well as all PK-12 classroom and special education teachers. As a benefit, participants have the opportunity to schedule a VSA visiting artist to come to your group of learners for a nominal fee ($15/hr.) paid at the time of the artist's visit.
