Volunteers Needed
|
The AEI Board is putting out a call for volunteers for two task forces. We need about 5-6 people for each.
The first would be a call for those wishing to work on the Fine Art Requirement for High School Graduation.
The second would be a call for those wishing to work on the task force to Establish a requirement to have all elementary art classes K-5 taught by a certified art instructor.
If you would like to be part of one of these important groups, please, contact Joel Franken as soon as possible. Joel, who is the Issues and Directions Chairman for the AEI Board, will not head these committees, so if you would lead one of the task forces, let him know!

Greetings!
Your students are gone on field trips every other day and you worry about whether they will finish their projects. There is still one more showing of student work that needs to be labeled and hung. Your list of supplies that needs to be ordered is buried somewhere on your desk.
Let us add a couple more "to do" items to your list...

Professional Development
There are several workshops available across the state this summer. We have put together a list of the ones that we know about on the Professional Development page on artedia.org. If you take part in one of the VSA Art on Fire Workshops, you will qualify to have a visiting artist come to your school for student workshops. |
Your Students in Des Moines
Members of your school board and the other 390+ school boards across the state of Iowa will be attending the Iowa Association of School Board Convention next fall. Your students can be there...not their bodies, but their images. Photograph your students' 2-D or 3-D self-portraits and send three of them to IASB for inclusion on the stage, on the posters, and on the program for the IASB Convention. Submit to by May 15. For more information, go to the IASB page. |

Advocate for the Arts in Iowa on the Pepsi Refresh site: vote 10 times a Day!
The Iowa Alliance for Arts Education has joined the Refresh Iowa group. The IAAE project has managed to stay in the top 100 vote-getters for two months. The idea of Refresh Iowa is to make sure that some of that Pepsi money ends up in Iowa by supporting the 44 projects this month that are tied to the state of Iowa.
As part of the Refresh Iowa group, you can vote for 10 different Iowa projects a day. Be sure to use your vote for the IAAE Model Arts Ed. Schools/Communities in the $50 K category and vote for 9 others in the other categories.
You can also find Refresh Iowa on Facebook and Twitter
