Greetings!
The AEI Board met in Marshalltown at the beautiful new library on Saturday, April 24. This dedicated group of art educators proves what Lucille Ball said: "If you want something done, ask a busy person." - The Visual Arts are well represented in the state writing of Core Curriculum.
- Maggie Parks attended the National Art Education Association Conference. She informs us that dues will be rising soon. The last increase in dues for the organization was 1993.
- The AEI Board updated the Strategic Plan. That plan includes many actions which will support art educators across the state of Iowa.
- Some members of the AEI Board are changing.
- Iowa City teacher Becky Kobos is retiring from teaching and would like to have someone to take their turn at representing AEA 10 Grant Wood. Pat Grubb is retired from teaching in Ankeny, so we need a replacement for AEA 11 Heartland, also. We still need a representative from the Northern counties of Prairie Lakes AEA 8.
- Allison Owens from AEA 11 will be taking on the duties of Membership Chair for AEI. Welcome, Allison! In March, AEA had 203 paid members. (Send this Message to someone you know who is not a member, and encourage them to join this professional organization.) Pam Muench will stay on the board as one of the Reps from AEA 267.
- Lisa Jorgensen is our new Marketing and Promotions Chair. Welcome, Lisa! Let Lisa know what kinds of products you would like AEI to market.
And there is more...

Student Art and Copyright In the ongoing discussion about originality, the AEI Board is interested in having a written policy about copyright.
AEI Board Member Laurie Olk has been a long-time judge for 4-H Arts and Crafts at the Iowa State Fair. 4-H has a document that guides judges and exhibitors in the use of copyrighted materials. Here is the document, as a starting point for this discussion. If you would like to comment or submit a suggestion for guidelines for our organization, post them on our Facebook discussion page.

Best of Show
AEI Secondary Representative Curt Nelson suggested that art work selected at conference and area art shows as award winners be sent on to a state-wide event.
An ad hoc committee has been formed to study providing a state-wide
secondary
visual art gathering, similar to the All-State Speech and Music events.
Committee member Tammy Hoppe will be contacting your AEA representative to get your feedback. If you are wondering who your AEA rep is go to the AEI Board Directory.
