Greetings!
March--Youth Art Month is almost here. There is still time to plan an activity for your students to share their enthusiasm for their art work with others. One of the trends in the past few years is to combine student art work with helping others:
- Hold a bus safety poster contest and display art work on school buses
- Ask VIPs from your local community to pose for portraits
- Start a quilt project to benefit those less fortunate
- Donate student-designed placements or table tents for local restaurants
- Appoint a local celeb who is supportive of the arts as the Honorary Chairperson of the local Art Month celebration
- Participate in an art postcard exchange with students from a sister city
- Donate student art to an assisted living center or nursing home

Cultural Advocacy Day
Several student works were selected to appear at the Cultural Advocacy Day on Feb. 17 in Des Moines. It was the intention to use all of the work not selected for YAM, but due to limited display space, it was necessary to select a smaller number of works. Here is the list of student artists whose work was shown.
Cultural Advocacy Day brought keynote Robert Bluestone to the State Historical Building to speak and play his wonderful music. Bluestone spoke about weaving the arts into our everyday lives. In addition, many workshops were provided to participants. The day ended with a legislative reception where cultural creatives were able to visit further more with their legislators while enjoying music and refreshments.
Thanks again for providing the youth art at the capitol! it really added a lot.
