Greetings!

As the '07-'08 school year ends, there are many exciting developments in the world of Art Education in Iowa. If there are some that we missed, please send them to webmaster@artedia.org. We'll share them with the world.

New AEI Leader
parksPres. Margaret Parks says:
Hello, I'm Maggie Parks, the incoming President of AEI. I've been teaching art for 17 years and have experience in all levels K-12. Currently I teach art to grades 1-4 in three schools in Marshalltown, and live in the neighboring town of Garwin. I have a strong interest in clay, textiles, and altered books.
I will be taking office in July, and as I look ahead to my term as President I hope to build the membership of our organization. I am continually awed by the power of networking with other teachers. There always seems to be a new technique, a new way to organize, and new ways to deliver art instruction. Sharing our ideas and practices continues to strengthen us as individuals and build our profession. By adding more members, the benefits of membership will continue to grow.
AEI has given me so many opportunities and helped me grow as a teacher. I look forward to giving back during my term as President.

Hall of Pride
Showcasing Student Art teachers
at Wells Fargo Center
AEI member Dave Pratt of Perry thought that outstanding talent in visual art should be recognized along with talent in sports, speech and drama at the Hall of Pride at The Well in Des Moines. The Hall of Pride now includes a kiosk recognizing the Visual Arts in Iowa High schools. The Kiosk at the Iowa Hall of Pride is not complete.  Dave says that the software company is supposed to finish up by June 30th.  We will let you know when the Kiosk is up and running.

Due to the high number of positive responses to the IHP exhibit of All-State Team Artwork, the staff at IHP has requested a hold-over through the month of June.  Last year over 5000 visitors  were recorded for the months of May and June.

All-State teachers should alert their students that their work may be picked up during the first week of July (not May).

If you have memoribilia that could be included in the display, contact Dave at Pratt3d@iowatelecom.net or Historian Susan Noonan at noonans@roschools.com. You also have this opportunity to make a financial donation to the display costs. More info.
