Here we are with only six weeks of winter left and so many things to do! Here are some reminders of some of the things that you can do for your students and yourself--and the Arts!
You've Gotta Have Art!
Celebrate YAM
Give your students a dramatic introduction to the world of art galleries and shows. Submit your student work to your AEI Rep. today so that they can deliver it to the judging on Saturday at the State Historical Building. If you don't know who your Rep. is, checkhere.
Plan a Trip to New Orleans
The NAEA Convention will be March 26-30, 2008 New Orleans, LA. Earlybird registration ends Feb. 15. Click on the image above for more info.
Advocate for the Arts
Because drastic cuts are being proposed for some key arts programs in President Bush's budget, we urge you to write your Members of Congress and tell them to reject the President's budget cuts. For more information, check outArtsusa.org
"A majority of U.S. voters agree that building students' imaginations
to equip young people with the ability to innovate is as important as
teaching them the academic basics, according to a poll commissioned by
an advocacy coalition for education in the arts." The findings suggest
that 56 percent of voters believe that standardized testing discourages
students' imaginations and creative skills.
Put Your Name Here
AEI is looking for teachers who would like to add lesson plans, photos of student art work, or curriculum clues to the artedia.org website. You could be the one to add a dynamic plan to our pages that other teachers will be doing with their students!
Donate to AEI Hall of Pride
The Iowa Art Council has awarded a matching grant in the amount of $8,500 for the Visual Arts in the Iowa Hall of Pride project. All-State Artists will join athletes in the Hall of Fame at the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines. For more info., click here. If you have students that would like to be considered for the 2008 All-State Artist honor, click here.
If you have lesson plans or arts events that you are promoting, submit them to me to be included on the pages of artedia.org. Share your knowledge and expertise!
