January 2008
Greetings!
Scholastic is back!

Next year (2009) The Connie Belin & Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted
Education and Talent Development is planning to bring the Scholastics
Regional Art competition back to Iowa-this will be part of the Center's
Visual Arts Program.  In the meantime, the Scholastics organizers would
like us to share the following announcement about this year's
Scholastics Awards (entries are due early in January).  Because entries are sent digitally,
it will be possible for you to enter when you get back to school after the holiday break.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2008

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and its Regional Affiliates are
reaching out to schools across the nation to identify America's most
accomplished teen artists and writers. The Scholastic Art & Writing
Awards of 2008 have begun!

More than 75,000 students across the nation will accept the challenge to
present their best creative work for review by artistic and literary
professionals.  More than 30,000 teens will be recognized regionally and
approximately 1,000 will go on to receive national awards.

Many of these young artists and writers will have their work exhibited,
published, and presented to a national audience by the Alliance for
Young Artists & Writers, and more than $1.5 million dollars in
scholarships will be made available to high school seniors who receive
national recognition.

If you know any creative teens in grades 7 - 12, encourage them to visit
the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Web site
(www.artandwriting.org) to learn more about The Scholastic Art & Writing
Awards and how to submit work.  Be sure to check out the virtual gallery
of nationally-recognized work from 2007!
